Ever thought about packing it all in a going travelling?

Nah I like my bed too much.

2 weeks on holiday is enough for me i get totally sick of it by the end and just want my own bed. Living out of a suitcase/backpack soon gets tiring. Then again I'm in my late 30's :D

You'll be spending your holidays sitting outside a Bournemouth beach hut by the time you're 50.

Excellent :)

How are your job prospects better?

Just re-assessed what I wanted to do, realised I probably had to do more training if I wanted to get into a decent job (previously I never wanted to do another exam after uni and being in education for 16 years etc).

Also from working in temp jobs over in Aus I realised that there are jobs out there where you don't dread going in to work everyday and if you are good at your job in the private sector you get rewarded.

Then got lucky when I got back (originally just covering someone for maternity leave but impressed enough to get a permanent job and for them to pay me to do cima)

I'm 35 so would be heading towards my late 30's by the time I came back (if I did) If coming back without a job lined up wasn't an issue I'd love to backpack for a few years.

I'd built myself a pretty decent career and was performing well, then I decided I'd had enough and quit. Best decision I ever made I'd say. Spent almost 4 months going round the States, getting a visa was incredibly simple and I wish I could do it all over again.

To make up my mind, I basically asked myself this question:

- When I hit 70 years old, do I want to know I earnt an extra £x by staying in my job
OR
- When I hit 70 years old, do I want to know that I experienced something (travelling) that has stayed with me my whole life.

You could always have a chat with your boss to see if he'd keep your job open. My friend did this and got almost 6 weeks off to go to Australia.

Good luck!

actually, I was so bored last night I nearly just booked all 30 days holiday off work, packed my rucksack and camera gear and went walking for a month.

Just bored of the same old routine and need an adventure! :)

I do think about it often yes, in a comfortable and secure job but it would be nice to just go to another part of the world and live (for want of a better word).

I guess it's the fear of the unknown and uncertainty which is why many people don't go and do something life changing or risky with their lives.

i wouldn't fixate on the age side of things too much, my friend the truck driver/English teacher was 41 when he left the UK on his 1 year climbing/back packing trip.

He popped back to the UK last summer on a flying visit just to catch up with folk, & i really can't see him coming back again to live, he's found his niche in life.

No, because then I'd have to act like a ******* to everyone when I come back, and bang on, and on, and on, about the travelling, and about how much of a free spirit I am. Seems to be the only thing people get out of gap years, and travelling really.

Quite content with going to work, earning money which enables me to do everything I want, and go on numerous holiday around the worl if I chose to.
