After a bit of thought on a new system I'd like to go Ultrawide with an AOC AG352UCG6, but I dont want to spend the money required for a 2080, is a 2070 sufficient when I wont be chasing Ultra settings across the board? I usually tend to lower settings for clouds and shadows, reflections, some AA etc but keep textures crisp where possible. Hoping this will be sufficient for Metro Exodus as well

I am set on the following spec ready to pull the trigger (convince me otherwise?):

i5 9600K (hoping 5GHz is achievable)
ROG Strix Z390-F
16GB of 3600Mhz DDR4
*may buy the above as a pre-clocked bundle*
AOC AG352UCG6 Monitor
EVGA RTX 2070 Black (or other 2070)

Just bought a 970 EVO

Hoping the GPU will see me through 3 years, with the rest of the system lasting 4 years or stretching a bit more with a GPU upgrade down the line

My MSI Ventus 2070 runs just fine (60-75fps) at 4k on bf5 with everything at ultra (DX11) except for 1 setting which is on medium but can't remember what it is without loading up.

It's the only game I have at the moment besides CS:S and CS:GO as I haven't had a pc for 5 years or so but so far I'm more than happy with it.

Thanks both. It's hard because I search these specs and you get people saying go for the 2080 since the 2070 isn't capable. But then the 2070 seems to produce good fps like spooky willow says. 50 or above is ok for me.

I priced up the i7 equivalent with a 2080 vs the i5 and a 2070 and it's maybe 350 quid difference. If I go with 1080p 28 inch monitors then the price difference is maybe 750 or up. But I do fancy an ultrawide for some immersion.

I might price up an amd system but there's a bit of fanboyism in me for Intel. My last amd was a 3500+...

Just read over some benchmarks as well, I am just about there now since the jump from a 2070 to 2080 seems to be 10 to 15 fps on average. Bearing in mind bf5 seems to return an average of 114fps in some reports at 1440 with a 2070 I think that should do me.

Why is it we were once satisfied with 30fps and thrilled with 60fps?! Now if it's sub 100 it's rubbish lol

Bought the 2070 with an i5, ocuk bin lottery. The i5 I have at the moment is an absolute dog and won't overclock at all so sort of want some guarantee it'll clock. So will see in a few days how well it works

I run a 1080 at a 3440x1440 and although I need to drop some settings to Very high in BF5 I get great FPS at 75-80 90% of the time. And I can't tell the difference between Ultra and Very High.

Well itll run insurgency sandstorm at 3440x1440 with a couple of settings turned down, not overclocked anything yet or had chance to play anything else. Screen is massive..... Will take some getting used to.
