Absolutely - the urge to go to the gym is surely just one manifestation of the "fight-or-flight" response to fear.There are studies which show correlation between fear response and political alignment.
Left wingers tend to be less fearful, meaning they tend to be less insular in how they think about politics. It's less about the self and more about the whole. It's not their response to fear: it's that they suffer less fear.
You can see this bourne out further in the right-wing response to a lot of things - typical solutions to the Middle East are: we should just be bombing the **** out them all", or "America needs to withdraw from the world".
