Expected temps for a stock Q9450?

Hi chaps,

I'm not having much fun with my new Q9450. I have it cooled by a Scythe Mini-Ninja and some AS5 and have tried several times to get the temps down. I have a sliver of AS5 on the heatspreader and the fan cranked to max but it's still idling at 50c. Is this right or is that a bit high?

Running Prime for ten mins it goes up into the mid sixties and then I chicken out and let the CPU idle and cool. Once I stop working it, the processor cools back down to 50c very quickly.

Which stepping is it? If it's the later (E0 I believe) 50c is too high. Well, 50c would be too high for the original stepping really.

Mid 60s is OK for load though.

Which stepping is it?

Not sure to be honest, here's the output from CPU-Z:

Edit, so C1 stepping.

Right leaving prime for a while the temps were up to 75

So off came the HSF and I've applied a fresh layer of AS5, turned on the fans directly behind the HSF to suck air out and put the noisy Scythe fan back on the Ninja rather than use a quiet Sharkoon. Idling now at 48c-50c and at load up to 60, the highest spike so far being 62c. Much better. Still not sure if that's best though, considering I haven't overclocked it at all!

whats the case your running it in, does it have good airflow, before upgrade what was you using before and how does it compare, interesting me this is as i might be upgrading to that cpu

It's in a Silverstone LC-17. Previously had an E2200 which was running at under 40c at load!

Can anyone else point me in the direction of acceptable stock temps? I'm going to try reseating it again tonight, the HSF is barely getting warm which means its either doing its job (which it's not, as the temps are high) or I've not applied the paste right!

Edit: could it be the sensors are out?

they've got dodgy sensors: mine (under water) idles at 50/60/55/60 on each core, under linx full load, it doesn't break 70 on any core - it will show lower temps but they've got a really strange lower temp sensor output. if you've got a fan controller with temp sensors, bang one of them on the side of you heatsink, i bet it'll be a fair few degrees lower

bearing in mind my temps: ambient temps are aroun 23oC, case temp is 37.

I had a Q9450 C1 @ 3.6ghz and it would idle mid 40s, load around 60. But this was under water, so it's hard for me to be helpful really.

Sounds like dodgy sensors though - if you're not planning on overclocking, I wouldn't worry about it.

Cheers guys. I've sent a message to OcUK for assistance in case it is the sensors. They've asked me to check the BIOS temp reading which I completely forgot about, which is reading 22c. I'd imagine is is always lower as it's not in the chip itself and is always going to be at idle but that's a fair amount of difference.
