We currently have an 8x6 shed on a concrete base. I am planning on putting an 8x8 shed in its place next month. I have dug out the extra 8x2 at around 6-7" inches today. I had planned to use some old house bricks under 3 inches of concrete, but reading up online there appears to be a lot of contradictory advice as to whether this is OK. Most guides suggest using MOT type 1, but most places nearby wont do less than a tonne at time, which would be complete overkill. I have an array of 2" stone flags kicking about, and a good stock of old bricks. Would these be sufficient with some ballast to fill any sizeable voids?

I am sure I am overthinking this for the sake of an extra 2ft. :)

All you need to do is remove the organic matter which you sound like you have already then erect some shuttering, old ply, old doors cut down, whatever doesn't matter then sling in all the bricks and blocks and set about with a sledge hammer then a club hammer reducing it all down to fist size chunks, as you whack it you'll be compacting it in.

You probably want 100 - 150mm 'cover' of concrete.

Knock up some concrete job done

Thanks - That's what I wanted to hear :)

What sort of depth should I be aiming for in mashed up bricks?

Thanks - really appreciate your help
Too much info is clearly a curse :)
