Not sure if this is hardware of software to be honest...

I recently got a 3TB external HDD to connect to my Mac Mini..

The issue is it seems to sleep after several hours and despite showing up in finder you can't go any deeper than the last time it was "alive" so to speak..

Sort of like it freezes.. If I just pull the USB it still complains about the drive not being properly ejected.. but then if I plug it straight back in everything is back to normal?

Any ideas?

I've made sure neither the drive or MacOS are trying to put drives to sleep ever...

Stumped tbh.. could the drive be bad?

I get the exact same thing on a 1TB Samsung drive. I just make sure I right click > eject before pulling it out.

Mine goes to sleep as well when my Mac goes to sleep. I’ve told it too spin down fully after 1 hour of no activity.

I’m sure it’s by design!
