external pc hard drive be used on a 360?

i dont know about xvids (probs not seein as they have to be encoded to wmv first anyway when streaming them) but music certainly (hence why ipods and mp3 players work :))

i think you just need a certain file system on the drive but dunno which though?

360 doest support xvid out of the box so to speak - but if the hdd was attatched via usb (like an external housing) then yes it can

So, If i buy an external Hard Drive and transfer a lot of movies to it. Can I play them on the 360 if its connected with usb? Regardless of the codec/format?

No, WMV is the main format - xvid etc dont work unless you have a 3rd party program to encode on the fly; i.e transcode360

No, McDaniel's post was a bit misleading. You can play movies from a USB drive but they have to be in proper WMV format (with WMV audio too, some convertors use MP3 audio).

Nope! Has to be in wmv, altough there is software if feeding from the pc it will transfer on the fly to wmv format. So so so so hope big bill brings out other codec support would just make the xbox amazing! :p
