External Sound Card & Speaker Setup for Latop

Hi all

I would like to turn my laptop into more of a media device, to play music for my room. So, Im guessing I would need some kind of external sound card and a good set of speakers?

Can anyone suggest a good combo? is USB going to damage what im trying to acheive? I just want it to be playing music.

well if ya still got a free pcmcia slot going that ya dont use i highly reccommend getting the Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS notebook i have had one for 2 years now for my laptop and its GREAT! hooked up to my inspire 5300 5.1 speakers, runs like a treat

tells ya all about it,lotsof graphs i dont really understand but ya get the jist that its good


edit: that card can also take what ever speakers you want really up to 7.1 surround
