A friend of mine took her laptop to be fixed at our Uni's computer help desk. They managed to fit a new hard drive but also broke the manual volume dial on the side of the laptop. It must have been set to 0 as no sound is coming out - and everything looks fine in Windows/Software. They say it will cost £90 to get an external one, which sounds dubious! Seen some external ones on OcUK for £25, is it just a case of simply plugging one into a USB port? Anyone got one?

What sort of quality do you want?
Just get any cheapy you can find if you're not bothered about sound quality. If you want something that sounds excellent, get an external DAC.
