External SSD - what way should I go?

I plan to get an externally SSD for the laptop, USB-C.

Samsung 500G T5 or something home brew like a SATA USB-C enclosure with a 2.5" SSD?

Can the home brew one be as fast as the Samsung?

I got a Gtech 1TB SSD USB 3.0 get around 200W/340R

Also have a TB enclosure with 2 Samsung 840s 1TB each in raid which gives 340W / 385R

I am sure when I have a Samsung 840 in a generic USB-C enclosure I was getting 400-450, but dont have it anymore to test.

Depends what your going to be using it for, I only use for backups and some video editing, all good for 4k stuff.
