Err, what on earth is going on in the F1 driver market this week?

First we have Kubica replacing Villeneuve at BMW, allegedly because Villeneuve isn't fit to drive in Hungary yet he seemed fine after his accident at Hockenheim (and said as much afterward). Now there are rumours he'll be replaced for the rest of the season.

Next up we have even more rumours that Raikonnen has signed for Ferrari and Renault's attempts to lure him their way have failed. This leaves a prime spot at Renault up for grabs, which leads us onto the biggest shock so far...

Webber's been dropped from Williams, to be replaced by Wurz next year. No explanation has been given but I strongly suspect that he's jumped as opposed to being pushed and may well have signed for Renault next year, especially as Briatore is his manager.

Yep, just been reading that re: Webber. Didn't see that one coming ! I suspect that Webber will join Renault to partner Fisi next year, and this could be an indication that Kimi is either staying at McLaren or off to Ferrari.

So, Alonso at McLaren, assuming Kimi has gone who is going there? Paffet and Hamilton have a chance but I see them more likely in a Midland with a Mercedes engine for at least a year. de la Rosa could continue but I doubt it, Massa perhaps?

Should be fun to see anyway. :D

FB is that manager of quite a few drivers, he'll be getting Renault setup to show him in the best light since Alonso is leaving.

Depends on MS aswell, if he retires then there will be a 2nd seat at Ferrari open.

Going to be v.interesting over the next few weeks.

I didn't see the Webber thing happening either... I don't understand why they are letting him go unless there are problems behind the scenes or he has already signed elsewhere but keeping it quiet.

Slightly OT but is this weekends race the one that Martin normally takes off / isn't allowed to commentate at? Not sure I could cope with Mark "dat is *** he done" Blundell!

As for Webber being ousted... I'm glad for Wurz. He has always struck me as a nice guy around the paddock. Pretty sure Webber will announce very soon that he's away to Renault, though possibly not until Kimi is announced at Ferrari.

Glad Wurz is back, used to rate him very highly. When did he last race? (99ish?)

One off race in 2005 at San Marino that he finished on the podium I think. (Backed up by F1 ITV)

EDIT - Wrong race! Thought it was Monte.

I read somewhere that webber rejected offers and was going to sign with williams again because they are going to be suplied by toyota next year.

Thank god williams got rid of him though, They were killing his career with all the crap cars he was getting:p

Ferrari technical director Ross Brawn, 51, to step down from his post next season to take a year out of F1 after 10 seasons with the team.

That has to mean MS is going too?

I am fairly sure if RB goes then MSC is gone too ;)

Reasons for Schui to RETIRE:
First of all if he win's his record 8th championship then he finishes on top.
Secondly if Kimi does indeed sign for Ferrari next year then i'm sure he wouldn't relish a 'straight-fight' which he could quite possibly lose.

Reasons for Schui to KEEP-GOING!:
First of all the 'Rari 248 is in fighting fit form, easily the best car on the grid.
Secondly, with the return to a single tyre manufacture supplied by Bridgestone, Ferrari will be at a major 'data' advantage & dare I say 'preferencial' advantage.
Thirdly, he's having the time of his life & gardening, walking the dog & jigsaws don't sound fun to him!

The big rumour is that Paffett & Hamilton will be piloting Midland cars next year powered by Mercedes engines as part of the deal. This is to give them race-experience for one-season where-by one of them will get the full-time seat alongside Alonso. In the mean time Pedro will probably continue.

What ever happens, It's likely to be a Ferrari dominance in 2007. F1's going to lose it's cool again :(

Is that a Devil's Advocate thing or a belief?

I can't believe that someone that will be regarded for years to come as one of, if not the best ever, would ever back out for such a reason. I'm no Schui fan, and I can see the basis for a drunken pub argument, but seriously, the man is a sporting legend, alongside the likes of Tiger Woods and Roger Federer as the best of at the very least, this sporting generation.

Actually spending more time with his wife and kids is one of the main reasons he's considering quitting.

huh? i think they have massa already signed?
Nope, Massa was always merely a one-year stop-gap. He might have had fanciful notions of proving to them that he's so good they need to keep him but frankly he'd be living in a dream world.
