Hi all,

A bit early i know, but i like to be prepared :)

Does anyone know where i can get information on prices for camping etc?

We're a good Hour and a bits drive from Silverstone, and if we're having weekend tickets, thats a lot of travelling and fuel expenses etc.

I've found the prices for the Tickets themselves, but i can't see any info on camping etc?

I remember going in 2005 and seeing a HUGE campsite, along with a fairground etc :)

Cheers,

Phil

You want to go to the campsite we stayed at for the Silverstone GT's. Much closer than the most commonly used campsite, and FAR cheaper.

I'll try and remember the name, but Kaiowas/Vix will probably post it before I find it :p

I'm going, can't wait... :D

Any good hotels / B&Bs near by?

Just paid for my 2007 F1 Silverstone tickets. We're going to camp at the same site as we did last year. We used Richard and Helen O'dell. The campsite is very close to the circuit, but a distance away so that you can actually get a few hours kip.

Last year, it's like a constant party at some sites and you will get no sleep. Now, I'm up for that, but I'm also up for enjoying the racing so like to be awake for it and not feeling like crap the next day.

Richard is such a good fellow and they even had a live band on the Saturday night, amongst other such activities. Not only that, but as it's not a massive site, it's quite close knit so that you can just wander round and have plenty of F1 conversations. I rang earlier and left a message so will presumably have it booked by tomorrow after. IIRC it was ~£100 for the weekend which is average.

We even turned up with three cars (five of us) and he gave us extra room, two extra car spaces and did everything to make our stay comfortable.

For camping, contact Richard Odell, we have stayed on his site a few times now, never for the Grand Prix but he's a decent bloke. Be prepared to be invited into someones large marquee though and given free food and beer. When we went got the Grand Prix Masters, there were a couple of people there who say they go every year and just try and get a big party going on. They are really nice. In fact I have just looked at the picture and you can see their marquee.

Beat you to that recommendation Vix ;) ^ Were you there last year? I don't believe you were ??

Last year, there were a bunch of people who had a massive setup with a table full of alcohol who were happy to start up a conversation with a few beers/wines/spirits. There was also a fella who came in a camper van who parked in front of us by himself. The entire weekend I wanted to invite him over but for some reason didn't. If he is there this year, we shall.

edit - re read your post, I see you were not.

Hey,

Thinking about going with a couple of mates as a post-degree treat (graduation in July if we all pass finals!). I've never been to an F1 race or even Silverstone for that matter though. Where are the best seats for viewing and stuff, and what are the general things to watch out for?

Cheers,

Suman

Well, it depends what you fancy. High speed passes, most anticipated corner for carnage (copse as it's the first corner following the pit striaght) or somewhere which you see the cars for longest (luffield).

This year, I've purchased tickets for Luffield A. £259, but when I was there last year I spent all day Friday at Luffield and it was awesome. You see them for ages and it's a combination of corners flowing into the main straight.

Seeing the cars for longest and at overtake points would be coolest imo... what are Beckett's and Copse E like? I think we sort of settled on Gold tickets, but might have to move up if the view from Luffield is as good as you say it is :D

[edit] Bridge, Abbey and Farm look like good spots too...

Cheers,

Suman

P.S. Castle Marina, NG7 here :)

In no way am i attacking the people who go to Silverstone, I would love to go, but how do you justify the wopping huge prize tag? Is it really worth it?

i went a few years ago and it was brilliant, don't think i would bother again for a few years but is a must do event imho. Especially as they keep threatening to cancel it

(i went in the stand at the beginging of the straight, you can see the corners before, it was the year schumi spunin qualifying A)
