Facebook and opt-out apps, ridiculous?

Twitter seems to be dying, or at least what I use it for. Most people and teams on f1 now have Facebook pages, which can have longer messages and more photos/videos etc. anything they do post on twitter is usually on Facebook as well.

means I use twitter less and less to follow f1 these days.

People who say Facebook is rubbish, 99% of the time just haven't customized Facebook and think they have to be a sheep and use it in x,y,z way. Like any tool, use it for what you want to do.

I've never used it and have no intention of ever using it. I can keep in contact with the people I need to without all this Social networking rubbish. Never needed it before and I don't know. :)

I've recently noticed that i'm copying and pasting headlines people read into google to read the full story instead of having to opt into an app. So i agree with OP.

If anything I'd say the spam from Apps has gone down massively from what it once was. If you remember a few years back you used to be bombarded with it and requests from friends to play silly little games and such.

You can easily silence them now, plus maybe it says something about some of your friends if they are obsessed with silly little games and horoscope type things!

I am deeply honoured that I have angered the psuedo-macho horde, who appear to believe masculinity is defined by how much of a **** you can be. Unfortunately, I do not believe the world works that way and thusly, I am unable to acquiesce to your request, alas.

That post only goes to prove that you have no idea what you are talking about :) Well done.

If you want psuedo-macho, head into Motors and see a few keyboard warriors going on about crowbars in the A3 thread, rather than the Gym Rats thread where everyone is happy and helping each other....

Never needed to use a mobile phone, before they came out.
Facebook makes it incredibly easy to organize stuff. Latest one being Holliday to USA, where else is there a clear time line, can post links, videos, pictures, chat?
It's a tool and if you use it as such in the way you want then as I said most complaints can be ignored as they just aren't an issue if you use and set it up how you want.

A Facebook app can't post on your wall unless you give it permission.
It's the same if you want an app to access your name, email address etc.

I know this, because I have built several Facebook apps.

I wouldn't have a mobile at all to be fair I only need mine for work etc.

Clones use Facebook and Twitter. Everyone jumped on the bandwagon, I refused to.

Or people who recognise it as the most effective way to communicate to certain people?

I struggle to see how you can judge how useful it is when you've never used it

Facebook is great if you use it as intended, If you add every idiot that you went to school with then you are going to get a load of **** on your feed, I only add people that I know and speak to currently, If they are the kind of person that post a lot of **** to Facebook chances are that they won't be my friend IRL so they don't get added

Maybe because I can spend my time more productively then waste my time constantly updating and broadcasting myself for all to see.

See my original comment, that you thought was wrong.

In no way does Facebook have to be used like that. And many of us don't use it like that.

If that's your idea of what Facebook is about that's user error and your error and nothing to do with Facebook.

Me too. I use Facebook to communicate with people, not broadcast what I am doing.

Don't judge the people using it/the platform itself just because you don't understand it.

Facebook like a lot of things, is only useful when you use it properly.

Most of my friends will organise days/nights out on Facebook and it's good to chat and see who is attending in one thread, I've found the 'create event' extremely handy when organising stag doo's etc.

Like someone said furhter up, if you add any old Tom, Dick or Harry you're going to get idiots posting what they are having for tea or asking how to wipe their arse.

I like how toon mad doesn't like Facebook as he's not a sheep but will quite happily log in here to see the **** people post :D

The people I know don't use or know about Overclockers or care about building PC's, so how is that the same?

My point was because Facebook and Twitter is all over the media and everywhere these days, people jumped on the bandwagon and followed suit. Eventually it will fade out just like MSN and Myspace and all the other social networking rubbish, then you will all just move onto whatever the next one is.

I think it's all a fad but whatever, if you clones like it then go for it :p

Also you're statement above is not the same.
