fair RMA replacement for a GTX 480?

Well the my Zotac came with a 5yr warrany compared to Gigabytes 2yr, I bought the Zotac for its warranty & at the time the price reflected that.

I guess I would be happy with a:

570 with equal warranty
or
A better performing card with less waranty

Don't be that concerned about the warranty, chances are in 2/3 years you will have upgraded again anyway. Getting a 570 would be a bonus really.

telling someone who is RMAing a card due it packing up to not be concerned about the warranty seems a bit daft to me.

but i understand your meaning the length of the warranty, it just caught me as funny/ironic.

Gigabyte's warranty is 3 years and they have a UK base unlike EVGA. I prefer to have 3 years in the UK than 10 years in Germany.

Turnaround for Gigabyte cards is 3 days, for EVGA is anything up to 2 weeks!

With the chance of a free upgrade. I thought EVGA normall have turnaround of 4-5 days?
They do allow you to remove the cooler which is the biggest plus for me

Something of similar performance would logically be the 570, not a card that's literally reached it's overclocking limits, also it's 1gb frame buffer v's 1.5gb. If that's what I was being offered there is no way I would accept. They have a responsibility to exchange it like for like. Op should say he games at a high resolution in case they do try to offer the 560. I don't know where the op stands though as they have offered him a 480 albeit with a lesser guarantee.

I'm not saying the GTX570 wouldn't be a more logical replacement, what i'm saying is that if he was offered a heavily clocked 560 then that would also be fair.

The frame buffer doesn't make any difference, did you bother to even look at any reviews of the card?

Also the core itself is picked for high speeds so you can hardly call it "at it's limits either".

The advantage is a cooler, quieter card as well.

At the end of the day though, he won't get offered something like this so the point is a bit moot.

Quick update guys.

Just got off the phone to the retailer & it looks like they are going to give me a full refund:D

Now do I buy an EVGA 570 Superclocked (pocket the remainder of the cash), or add a little money and get a 580?

I would say be cheeky and ask if you can get a GTX 580.

Although a GTX 570 is pretty much the on par with a 480 but worse at higher resolutions.

You could ask for a refund tho.

I have now.

I regret not asking for a refund because the phantom was announced the day after and when I saw the price, it wasn't that much more.

Take the refund.

If you were happy with the 480 why not buy one of the Asus ones on special - 3 year warranty (Although from what I've read may not be the easiest to deal with:() - Best bang for your buck!

Alternate approach - if you just fancy a new card :) - buy a 6950 flash to 6970 etc - Asus again though. 2nd best b for b and a new toy :D

570 is a good buy - but would you notice any better performance running at 1920x1200 than the 480/6970 - from what I've read - No

580 - simply too expensive - bragging rights though.

A complete result. Congrats Matey:D that EVGA will be class as well.

Congrats on getting a full refund mate.

as for what card to go for, well it all depends on what you are willing to pay.

If buying a 570 leaves you in profit then got for it (depends on how much £ you save)

Me personally would get the 580, as long as it was not costing more than 50 quid
