Fake £1 coins - who's got one?

The three in my possession appear to be genuine.

Andy Brown of Willings, a firm which makes machines to check coins for other businesses and organisations, says there could be 73 million fake coins.

That is an awful lot of fakes if true.

Lets face it, no one behind a counter really checks coins, and who checks coins in their pocket? Coin checking will probably become as big as counterfeit note checking.

I have seen one but never had one, you can spot them a mile off they are lighter and a manky colour.

as the guy in the vid on the link says its nothing to do with colour

they can easily match the colour its the markings they cant do so good (cheaply)

I've got two £1 coins in my wallet, one looks like a fake. :(

The writing on the back around the Queen is far too big, the Queen's head is completely different to the real coin, the pattern round the edge is totally naff and they could not be bothered with the standard crest on the front. The back and the front of the coin are orientated in the same way though (at least they can get one thing right).

Never occured to me to check coins before. I wonder how many of these fakes are going to end up in vending machines over the next few weeks.
