Been looking forward to this since I hard about it.

Anyway been looking into it and have come across the pre-order bonus packs. What are your views? Are they a nice little boost for people supporting the game or a bit of a cheat?

The packs are Classic, Tribal, Caravan and Mercenary detailed here.

The article says that they are for North American audiences but a quick look round shows me that at least two major retailers have these packs in the UK. The cheapest I have seen includes the Tribal deal but I would prefer the Caravan based on the info given and my play style (this set is available but at the moment it is £5 more from another seller).

So which pack would you go for and why, is it worth paying more for them or do you think they will spoil some immersion and you will pick up better in game soon enough?

I'm going to get the collectors edition which I don't think comes with any DLC.

I don't think the items you get will spoil the game. However, I imagine they will give you a very very very slight advantage for the first 30-60 mins of the game.

But then also if it's anything like FO3 then you can probably skip following the main quest line right away and go off exploring. For example, it's possible to get a laser pistol within 10 mins of leaving the vault by going straight to the super duper mart or there is a gang to kill, for nice weapons, on top of the free way to left as you leave the vault.

Only seen the Classic and Caravan offers but I'm just going to go for the cheapest which is the Classic for 24.99.

I would like the collectors but it just seems like a waste of money TBH.

Just out of interest, do the DLC options change the game in anyway other than the items they give you? Would Classic play differently to Caravan? Can't view the link in the OP's post as my connection fails.

Steamworks = Win

EDIT: I'm just hoping it's not so damm buggy as FO3 one of the worst games I've experienced for bugs, rendering the game unplayable for a period of time.

The whole preorder 'packs' are a load of crap anyway. Its just an excuse to avoid giving it a 10% discount like other games do. The thing is though, reading those items it makes it sound like you'd start in a different way depending on which pack you had, reminiscent of the 'Alternative Start' mods you could get on FO3. But it won't be anything more than a collection of crappy items you'll forget about/sell after 30 minutes. No doubt all the packs will be available to download within a few days and as an extra insult, modders will doubtless make a far better job at making them 'fit'.

Well yes Davola... but thats the price of an open world that you can abuse. Try that on FWE + MMM in the first 10 minutes and you'll get your ass handed to you before you can say "whats that coming over the hill, is it a OMFG ITS 10 RAIDERS!"

Anyway, i'll wait and see. I can't get it on release anyway because this pc wouldn't survive it. I might get it cheap after xmas but then theres the problem of stupidly overpriced DLC...

i mean I hope the "packs" arn;t just differnt origin stories before the main game starts like DA, but they;re making you pay extra for each one.

Anyone who's experienced the awesomeness of Fallout 1 & 2 knows that there's loads of existing lore and locations perfect for FO3-style expansions. Personally, I'm really hoping for New Arroyo, Vault City, and NCR proper. Other places like San Francisco, LA Boneyard, etc. would be great too.

Obsidian :o I'll wait for reviews personally. Still haven't forgiven them for releasing a half baked Swtor Sith Lords, from my experience they never seem to make anything better than the original game their working on. Hope this turns out good though.

Oh yeah, reads differently ><

Would be pretty lame but then, making them different preorder packs would just be ridiculous. But anyway, like i said, they'll probably be available for download shortly after release and in time modders will do them better.

You try making a full-scale RPG in 9 months with Lucasarts breathing down your neck every step of the way...

As for these packs, typical of Betheseda...
