Hey, a family friend needs a pc. their children are quite young but i know they play games in town so i think they would like to get a pc which can handle some games.

However, their budget is very tight and needs to be bought from a retailer as i wont be around to fix it and i have some questions:

1) If i bought from a pc makers with say an asus SLI board, do you think i would be able to overclock it?

I know that dell seem to lock their mobos but if it was a more exotic mobo or one which is more expensive do you think i could overclock their pc? it would save them quite a bit of cash.

2) How would an 8600 do with playing games for a year or two?

3) Do you recon it would be better to buy the printer, monitor, speakers and mouse and keyboard separate or i with a bundle?

If so what budget printer and speakers would you recomend?

4) Would putting an extra stick of ram into a retail pc void their warrenty? As if it goes wrong i may not be tehre to take the right stick out lol.

5) Do you recon its possible to get a gaming pc for under 600 quid from a pc retailer?

Thanks guys, sorry for a bit of a long post. never looked into these things before and they really dont have any money to waste so its gota be best bang for buck all the way.

i wasn't talking about games like crysis. Im talking cod2, rb6 perhaps cod4, CSS, BF2 doubt any stratergy games like supreme commander.

Thanks, i found a stonking deal somewhere. 400 quid for an E6400 8600GT 512mb 3 year warrenty, 2gb ram. It all looks good but i gota get a printer, mouse, keyboard and monitor and then its going over 400 quid. I think their budget might be around 400-500.

im hoping ill be able to overclock as i know on my friends dell pc they have locked all the settings and he cant get into any of the ovberclocking.

Im just looking to see what i can get for 400 quid if i built it. Not easy lol.

Would the 8600 256mb be any good for the next year? or do you recon really it needs to be a 512mb card.

Whats the 3650 like?
