Fan controller and HD mount in one?

I'm after a fan controller that fits into a 5.25 bay and also mounts the Hard Drive, something similar to say...the Coolermaster Cooldrive's, I don't want the fan's to be software controlled though, a simple rheostat style would be ideal. Also, I'd prefer it to look as plain as possible.

I fitted a couple of 38mm Panaflo FBA12G12L's over the weekend as I wanted the option of something with greater airflow than the Yate's i've used up until now. They've shaved 10degrees off the load temp I was getting previously in Orthos but are too noisy for anything (other than benching) at 12v and a little weedy at 7v.

I've only got 1 5.25" spare and need to mount both in the one bay...any ideas?

Thanks in advance! :)

What about a 3.5" fan controller, the Akasa Jr is very plane and looks very nice, only has 3 fans on it though (and 2 USB ports) £8.67. There is a Silverstone FP33-B Black Aluminum 3.5" with only 3 fans and no usb ports £12.33. I have also see "Alphacool Fancontroller 3.5" " for £11.74 which has 4 fan controls on it (and blue LED's if thats your bag).

just what im after for my htpc, nice thread :D

do any of these go between 5v and 12v?

Are they for 3pin only or do any have connections for 4pin molex?

Akasa fan controller Jr - 6v-12v
Alphacool Fancontroller - 7v -12v
Silverstone FP33-B - 5v -12v

The only thing I noticed with the silverstone was that the "nobs" where quite long (lol), but the akasa has very short ones which is cool for my case door ;)

Thanks for the reply...unfortunately it's all got to go in a single 5.25" with the HD behind it, all the other slots are taken up by my radiator. I tried mounting the HD behind a Zalman fan controller I had lying around but the connectors to the fan fouled it. I used to have a Cooldrive 6 which worked but the software fan control wasn't ideal...hmmm...

Doh, well if your in to modding you could cut your zalman's size in the top of the case, make a small metal bracket wtih 2 screw holes and screw it in the top ;)

Thanks a lot, gonna go with Akasa Jr as it will suit my case, £12 inc postage though! dam postage prices :(

What type of cable will I need to connect molex fans to this, 3pin to 4pin but which is male/female? :s

female has a connection for something to go "inside" it (thus the name) and male has something which goes inside something (thus the name). Pics:

3 pin, female left, male right

4 pin, female far right, male middle (left connector is also another type of female 3 pin connector)

This cable will work; http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CB-007-GE&groupid=701&catid=48&subcat=

The yellow/black wire connector is so you can plug in to motherboard to monitor the RPM speed - personally I would go for an adapter without unless you want to monitor the RPM.

seems a bit expensive just for an adapter though, most fans these days come with one, I think I have about 5 lol.

I actually have 2, which are the same as the OcUK link (came with akasa fans), 2 are from my noctua fans which I want to keep (as I want to sell one of the fans), and the other is a 3 pin to 4 pin connector - which has a female 3 pin, female 4 pin and a male 4 pin so am not sure if that would work.

well if you want to sell 2 of them make a quick for sale thread that staes only tom can buy them :P
aslong as theyre cheaper than £5 ill have them both!

tsinc80697 you could go with the vantec nexus NXP-305 which can control the fans from completely off to full on. It also comes with a whole range of connectors and adapters for connecting up fans with only molex connectors etc. You also get 2 cathodes which can be controlled by the controller as well. I have one and think it's excellent, can easily handle more than one fan on each connector if you run out.

I wish I had got that one actually, but the LED's would annoy me - being able to switch the fans off quickly would be cool though to see what is making the noise from your computer (without unplugging them).

tsinc80697 if you would like me to create a thread in for sale on MM I will, let me know (or just email my email in trust).

I came across this little beauty whilst looking for an all in one solution, as it was only a fiver I took the plunge and I have to say it's worked a treat! I've used my old Zalman ZM MFC1 in the front of the bay and mounted the raptor to the base of the SP06 with rubber grommets to dampen the vibrations....peace and quiet at last!
