Hi,

I am in the process of redecorating my bedroom, I have a black plasma TV and a black laptop and am thinking of painting it white to make the place brighter. I would love to make it a really modern bedoom, but I haven't a clue what to put in there e.g. ultra modern lamps, mood lighting, LCD picture frames or just some snazzy decorations to make it look like a savannah, water feature or some futuristic thing. Or perhaps just a normal plain old bedroom redesign :p These were just some ideas off the top of my head, but it could be over the top, I am just guessing

Can anyone help me out? :).. And apologies about the mess ;)

How much do you want to spend?

Wouldn't like to put a budget on it, but if it requires some spending then so be it ;) But it's not like I am fitting new units as these are still modern so I expect the cost to be minimal because I already have a plasma TV, amp etc. I am recently married and would like my wife to enjoy her new ultramodern abode :D

So many directions to take, home cinema, post modern or both, do I buy simple vases or designer ones for example or none at all? My head is spinning :(

Lolz. I am just trying to keep up with the times, my mother says go Victorian but I said it is old hat ;) You see so many American movies with super living spaces particularly in sci-fi thrillers, there must be a message there somewhere - a talking room perhaps :p

Personaly I would Rip out the fitted units and start again. Also a couple of coats of white paint is always a good base to start with. Do you have to have the computer in that room? or is this your only living space?

Sorry for the questions, but the only reason i ask is that the room is small for what you want in there, and it could be set out better if there is no need for the computer to be in there.

Also is that a chimeny breast i see there or am i seeing things?

Any chance you can draw a floor plan with aprox measurements so we can see the full size for the room.

Wow, that's a lot of pink. Before I saw the wife comment, I thought that was a single female's room. :o

White is good, off white is even better.

Of course you are right, space is at a premium particularly with the cost of houses these days. The units have to stay to keep clothes in otherwise we would have to go out naked :p The computer is a laptop so it can just go on the bed or be tucked away in a drawer or under the bed. I am glad you think white would be a good start. This has reassured me somewhat so white it is :) The room is a perfect rectangle, 2.5m wide, 4.5m long. There is no chimney, it's a modern bungalow ;)

Good guess, but it is orange, I tried to make my room look modern a few years ago, plus I knew it would only take 2 hours to paint over :p

Heheh i understand you need the wardrobe and drawers i would build my self some new ones down one end of the room.

Do you have to get all the way around the bed? Becouse if you remove the units push the bed up against the window put the plasma on the wall (so it can be seen from bed) It would give you room for a lot more units at the other end of the room.

Not to scale but you get my idea? I had exactaly the same problem when i lived with the rents. and this was the best use of space we could come up with, without it feeling cluttered.

depending on how much space is left you could even pull the bed away from the window and put a small unit in next to it.

Oh and by the way my whole house is white :D

Hey that's actually not a bad suggestion (great plan BTW :) ), you are right, one does have to navigate around the bed to get to the window. After speaking with the wifey, she says it would be hugely expensive as the units are fully fitted, the wooden floor would have to be redone and there would be too much light from the window for the people on the bed and for the plasma and says it is not very good for surround sound acoustically speaking :p But, that's a great floor plane, keep the suggestions coming :)

The list so far:

1. Must be painted off white
2. Computer desk has to go

The fixed units are horrible.

end of story!

It's not a very good piccy, but I assure you the units are Schreiber, probably the best you can buy for a couple of grand, and very modern even by today's standards but I will keep your suggestion under consideration

The bedspread and sewing machine sticker are orange? Oh no, I must be going color blind. :(

If you must keep the units there isnt much you can do to be honist other than a coat of paint and a good uplighter opposite the door.

As for light from the window, this isnt realy a problem as blackout blinds / curtans will stop any and all light.

Oh and fitted units are yuck. To redo the floor should cost nomore than £100 if you do the work yourself, Also if you can get the same stuff as has already been used it would cost less. Ikea is your friend for new units max of £300 plus paint and an uplighter or two your looking at spending £450 £500 at most.

If you know your way around some power tools MDF and a coat of paint can look just as good if not better than most fitted units.
