Bit of a long shot, I know. But I would love to speak to somebody who works there, if it's possible.

It isn't about an account with them, since I have any type of product with Orange. It's more a question about the callcentre work.

Are you Indian?

If yes go to 1. If no go to 2.

1. You're recruited as we have positive discrimination quotas to fill

2. You're too far away sorry

:p

You need to speak to my mate, Skyfall

He worked for them for two years, and now has just transferred to their business broadband call centre team.

I also worked for the broadband side before it became Orange. If there is anything I can help with.

Did you work at Darlington, Morton Park? If so, was it in Global House?

If so, could you drop me an email (in my trust) and I'll add you to my MSN for a quick chin wag.

No unfortunately I didn't, so can't help you there.

However, that is where Skyfall is working currenty so he will be your best bet. If you drop me a PM or Email, I'll give you his MSN addy. :)

Is it okay to ask you to ask him to email the address in my trust? If so, would appreciate that a lot! :)

Yeah no worries, he's collapsed in bed at the moment, I'll give him a ring tomorrow morning and ask him to fire off a mail to you / make him aware of this thread.

OT: basmic, How dare you take what i say and use it out of context in a signature for comedy! :p I sir challenge you to a round of fisty cuffs

I worked there when it was Hutchison Telecom and for a while when it was Orange, I worked in I.T. but might be able to help, I know lots of people that work there still too.

Edit: although Skyfall might be a better bet as he worked there recently and on the phones :p

"Can I ask you a couple of security questions please sir?"
"Sure!"
"What religion are you?"
"Musl" *CLICK*

I've had a bit of experience of callcentre work, including broadband - my msn is in trust if you dont wanna post on here bud

Is this a question you wish to ask on the boards or is it a conversation for email / msn?
Ok, I'll be straight.

I'm starting my training there next week, and want to know what I'm letting myself in for. So I was hoping somebody who worked/works there now (or very recently) would tell me what I'm letting myself in for. :p

If it's Orange / call centres in general rather than that 1 site then that's easy. You've got about 2 weeks of not doing very much at all (although with Orange you do at least get free tea, coffee and Galaxy hot choc), another week or so of listening to other people take calls (which will feel like a very long week! :p ) and then you'll actually start the job, although what that's like will depend on your dept. :)

a lad i know works there. its extremely relaxed according to him and he seems to spend most of his day browsing the internet. sounds like its mostly people aged 18-30 working there (well on the phones anyway) and everyone has a laugh. i cant imagine the work is very stimulating but he loves it.

in the darlo call centre as well

Sounds very much like what I've been told. Training for two weeks, listening in to other colleagues taking calls (wasn't how long for, though), then I get to take calls.

They better not offer me too many caffine injections though, or I'll be training something else to a porcelain bowl! :p:D

Well I was given the impression Orange were either pigs or joys to work for. I've heard of them timing you when you nip to the loo.

I can live with surfing OcUK forums while working - just don't go making all those "spec me a gadget" threads, for me to spend my money on! :D

Seriously though - some may have seen my last thread, about hope for the unemployed (or similar title). My unemployement was a barrier for my confidence, and now I feel I have got over that barrier - assuming I get through the training ok. :p

Wow, I also worked there when it was hutchison Telecom, I started on the Paging customer service desk and eventually worked in IT also, I left nearly 8 years ago now though. I remember being there for the demise of Rabbit, the launch of Orange and then sadly all the way through till they made loads of us redundant. I still miss the days at Orange, ahhhh good times :)

As for the work. I know it's been a long time since I worked on the customer service side of things, but I really enjoyed it. There was a certain frustrating element to it, they would take note if you took to many toilet breaks etc, you were under a certain amount of pressure to answer a certain number of calls an hour, keep your call duration under a certain average length etc. Overall though I really enjoyed it and they did fantastic free coffee in huge mugs like out of Friends and the canteen in Darlo did great food.
