FAO Dashik or other ADI - observation tips please.

Rubbish. Things change and as some here will only be too happy to point out they exceed the speed limit, rightly or wrongly, and idiots do the daftest of things. So what if a motorcyclist was firing it up the inside to beat you onto the roundabout and you did not check the left mirror?

Oh and as for it being there fault if the hit you from behind, how would you spend the insurance when your dead? You were in the right but still dead :D

Sensationalist rubbish, won't happen.

Oh ok then if you say so. If your that confident write your will, feel sorry for your family.

You have to get it right EVERY time and only have to get it wrong once, still you obviously know better......

Totally agree, was on my way down to Taunton the other day and was in a line of cars plodding along at 50mph, and then the road narrowed a bit, and went twisty, so people slow to the likes of 40. I constantly check my mirrors, and every time I looked in them it was just a car behind me. I spotted a bike about 10 cars back in the line, and when I checked again a couple of seconds later he was behind me.
Say I had to stop for a dog/child/etc. and I assumed that there was only the car behind me, the bike would have likely ended up in the back of the car, probably along with the other car in the back of him.

Mirror checks constantly are something I really feel strongly about, I'm always checking between all my mirrors whilst paying attention to what's going on in front of me.

Oh, as for the topic...everything has been covered. When I did my test years ago I was lucky enough to do my reverse park around the car I'd practised on the hour before, so did it spot on (having not done it all that well in the practice). :D

you have a real nerve saying something like that....

Observation is the most important skill on the road. Certainly from a Biker's perspective - you miss something, you're dead, or a vegetable, it's that simple. Obviously observation goes hand in hand with anticipation and reaction, but I doubt you get taught that on a basic test? All I'd say is you can never take too much time to make sure the coast is clear - obviously once you become more skillful at spotting hazards you spend "less" time (i.e. you spot things quicker) - but frankly I'd rather miss an opportunity to pull out than cause an accident or injure someone.

I can assure you I make sure all my pupils know how to take effective observations at all times and that includes looking for bikes etc.

My instructor constantly reminds me about the mirrors...if i miss a check i notice right away along with a sarky comment from her.....hmm.

Just the other week i was doing 60 on a nsl road....straight road with a junction half a mile up the road on the right. Civic type R decides he will fly past me at god knows what speed to break like **** and take that exit! I checked my rear view mirror....he's there.....go to check again but get distracted with Vtec yo flying past me.

Oh and dont forget your lesson was brought forward an hour like me.....£46 down for nothing :(

It's not that.....it's the fact i was coming home from my mates to get ready for it and flew behind her on my bike while she was reversing into a parking bay :D

Instead of winding her up i shoulda maybe clicked on WHY she was in my area and WHY she was parking up randomly. :o

FAIL
