Hi folks.

Just wanted to ask which insurance provider you've all gone with, and what your experiences are with them.

I'm looking at quotes from various providers to get my apartment covered, but they're all roughly the same. I don't really want to end up with a provider that drags their heels if anything goes wrong over the course of the year and so on.

So, who would you recommend, and have you had to deal with them over any claims?

Cheers :)

If possible, see if it can be covered on your parents house insurence, works out a lot cheaper. Got that done when I was at uni and they had no problems claiming when my Playstation and some games were stolen. I think it was with Natwest.

That's a good idea, except I don't really want to have to deal with my parents if I break anything at uni. I'd much rather be able to deal with things myself, although I never had to deal with my insurance company when I was living in halls.

In that case, Endsleigh seem to be the most established insurence company for students, although not necessarily the cheapest.

Their quote has been quite reasonable at £97 for the year, Natwest was £110 but offered me slightly more in the way of included cover.

I'm really after recommendations on which insurer is best. Ideally one which deals with problems quickly, without giving me the runaround.

Lol i think that will just about all of them out :)

I went with endsleigh (because of convieniance, i did no research ) for a year didnt bother for the other 2 years.

I used Endsleigh in my first year (in halls), and havnt bothered since. By all accounts they're pretty good if something does go missing, though they're on the expensive side.

I just used my parents insurance whilst I was in rented accommodation. Unless you're going to stagger into your room drunk everynight and smash the place up, you shouldn't be worried about going to your parents if something is broken accidentally.

Endsleigh have been pretty good for me... first year in halls I have my iRiver stolen and they were replaced very quickly. For the second year, you get a 5% discount because you used them in the first year.

I always have accidental damage, because who knows what may happen when you have drunk students :p

Saxon insurance, covered about £3k in possessions, + laptop anywhere in *** country, house shared in southampton. £50 a year over 2 years. £50 excess.

Read your accomodation fine print. MOST universities already have insurance on all rooms included, just dont tell you about it. I know this is the case with UWE.
They still pile in the leaflets for endsleigh etc. but it says in teeny print at the bottom some clause about the uni having to give insurance cover by law which you already have.

Aye I had them during my first year in UPP halls. I'm moving into a proper flat this year coming so they've left insurance up to us. Thanks for your comments so far, I think I'll more than likely go with Endsleigh now. :)

Used Endsleigh in the past and then Prudential when in a shared house. If in proper shared accomodation it is really worth checking the terms and conditions of the insurance as many insurers won't actually provide cover due to the massively increased risk.

I used Endsleigh in my first year though it cost me an extra £223 to insure my laptop  . For the 2nd and 3rd year the insurance is included in my rent for the flat(UNITE)
