Yeesh... so you had a thread zapped... anyone else and it would be water off a ducks back.

You searched, didnt find, posted, got told off. You know you looked for it and I doubt anyone would bother arguing with you so why make such a fuss?

SiriusB
what?

this has nothing to do with my thread being closed. I would have said exactly what i said in the OP above in my existing thread, infact i was typing it out, tried submitting it, only to find that it wouldn't work cos my thread has been closed.

Surely it's helpful for everyone on the boards who happen to be on at the time when the original thread is created, to mention that there is already a thread on it, and revive an existing one rather than have 5 threads the same? It's not a bad thing, as long as the person shows the search result or posts the duplicate thread, it means we can close the duplicate thread and the original can be revived and carry on. Makes things a lot tidier - don't you think?

Not a big deal really is it?

Far too much common sense involved there.

yes and in that case that is absolutely fine.

But people seem to jump the gun when it comes to this situation. My bet is half the people in the other closed thread didnt even look at the URL and just assumed it was about the very very first website helpwinmybet.com, as opposed to helpwinthisbet.com

Don't let it annoy you - report it, and I'll reopen the thread and you can go - HAH PWNED you all... ;)

My view on this:

If you have found something on the interweb which is hilariously (or not so hilariously) funny or amazing or interesting, the chances are that someone else has found it too so the first thing you should do is have a quick scan through the first few pages and look for a thread title which may refer to the subject matter you have found.

If this fails to turn up any results try a few searches with obvious (and possibly obscure) keywords.

If this fails then post away but state that you have searched and found no reference.

If there is already a thread on the matter, you may well get a few gloaters who will take the mickey but you will more likely get people saying "already been posted mate" providing a link to the original thread - if this happens, make another post apologizing and asking for the thread to be closed. This should deter all but the most persistent "WTLW" ****heads from getting their tuppenceworth in.

If, however, you start a thread entitled "OMGLOL1111, I've found the funniest thing on the interweb EVER" and there is another thread with an obvious looking title on the first page, then take it like a man, 'cos you deserve it :p

Stan :)

I think your thread got particularly trampled on because the link was posted in the original thread at 11:05, someone then created a thread at 14:46 - which was subsequently locked - and someone else started another thread at 18:06. It's not often that a link gets posted in a thread, then three separate threads are made dedicated to the same link within the space of nine hours. I guess it would be fine if the link was actually useful, but it's just some bloke piggybacking off another bloke who tried to become famous/rich through deceit (atleast as far as I'm concerned).

Where exactly did you hear about this site anyway? There must be some sort of central pool of stupid websites from which all these people get this stuff? Granted, in this case the search function didn't come up trumps, but even glancing at page 2 of general discussion would have come up with one of the threads, atleast.

You made a mistake. You got shouted at because you were the umpteenth person to make said mistake. Get over it and don't let it ruin your day :)

I agree. You can just not click it.
Exactly.

The other thing is the amount of people who post these "old" comments always makes me laugh, did they not even bother to read the rest of the replies or are they not a full shilling?

Well i come home from work and havent got time to trudge through hours of threads. So i post it knowing that if it already has been done under a different title, the MODs will lock it.
Love you really MODs :D

I think we've all got the point and the idea - before people start laying into each other about "well I always use search..." and what not I think we can call this matter flagged and understood.

If anyone feels more discussion is required feel free to email me (email in address).

:)

Well that's part of what we do - if we can merge threads or find a relevant thread, we tend to link to it when we close it. :) It's no skin off my nose if it's been posted before, but if it's been posted 5 times on the same day it does get a little exasperating ;)
