A few weeks ago I said farewell to my Bonnie and my STR.

Both bikes have been fantastic, but I was saddest to see the Bonnie go. She was my first bike, I've been round Europe twice on her and all over the UK. I even turned up to my first date with my now-wife on the Bonnie, so I was feeling a bit sentimental as the bike was loaded into the van.

I don't need to sing the praises of the Street Triple R to you lot, because it's already famous for its handling, performance but also accessibility. I've only had it for 18 months and as a motorbike it's been great. Sadly, as a possession, I never quite gelled with it the way I did with the Bonnie. It was this reason I started looking for something new...

After much consideration I decided to pull the trigger on a bike that I've been lusting after since it was released many years ago. I found one at a main dealer just down the road on the Approved Used scheme with all the right accessories and one of the two colours I had been considering. I haggled a decent trade-in price for the two bikes and picked the new machine up a few weeks ago.

It is insane.

I love it already.

I may write up a short post in a few more weeks about transitioning between my 73bhp Bonnie to the 190bhp S1000RR, but my initial thoughts can be summed up with "wow". I just wanted to share my enthusiasm as the sun is shining and I've ridden it into work today!

I will probably keep my signature as-is for posterity though! ;)

Nice! I do love the look of these.

I imagine the initial twist of the throttle was met with FUUUUUUUUUU:eek: if you'd been riding the Bonnie beforehand :D

Shame you had to get rid of the bonnie,

But congrats on the new machine, just in time for spring/summer

Beastly S1000RR, lots of people say you've all the pros of a 1L but it handles like a 600? :p
What was the other colour you were interested in?

How come you couldn't keep the bonnie!!?? :(

Agreed, big shame to lose the Bonnie, I will admit it was a tough decision. Whilst I didn't 100% need the PX cash from it, it made justifying the expense of the BMW slightly easier to myself/Mrs Dangermouse. Not only that, but having one bike takes up less room in my garage, is less admin, saves money on two sets of servicing/MOTs/etc. Having more recently purchased the STR, I was riding the Bonnie less and less.

Lastly, Triumph have recently released their new Bonnies/Thruxtons - my old Bonnie was getting a bit worn around the edges, a bit leaky and the brakes weren't exactly confidence inspiring compared to modern bikes. I felt that if I wanted to scratch that modern-classic in the future, I could do so with a more modern and safer bike.

Having never ridden a 600 for longer than a test-ride, I couldn't really comment. But as someone new to sportsbikes I can confirm it's the most comfortable sportsbike I've ever ridden. I chose the STR over the Daytona 675 18 months ago because I felt the Daytona was too harsh on the wrists - don't get me wrong though, the S1000RR still induces a bit of wrist-ache after a while, but I suspect that's probably something I'll never get away from.

The colour I was initially interested in was the Motorsport edition, it's the iconic S1000RR colour, but I went for this because of the convenience of having a main dealer just down the road that I could chat to, test, arrange pick-up, etc. Anything else would have meant further travel, more hassle and less convenience. I let colour be the compromise I made so that I could get out on the new bike sooner rather than later.

Nice bike congrats. Must admit that's quite a jump from the Bonny to this!

Carbon parts suit the colour scheme too, very smart :)

Lovely - I'm seriously considering the Motorsport one to complement the GS, which I can't bring myself to sell for the same sentimental reasons!

Tail Tidy purrlease.

The Rizoma Carbon one would go nicely and is what I have on my single R, can retain OEM LED indicators also. Also, none of this aftermarket lever stuff, go for the real deals  :D (Pricey I know :()
