A girl I know asked me if I'd like to take some photo's of her friend today for their college fashion work, and here are a few of the results! Taken with my trusty 40D, Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 and my Canon 50mm f/1.4 :)

As you can see I used a variety of post-processing methods. Comments and constructive criticism more than welcome!

got to say i love the use of natural light and i thing the processing suits them. I cant comment on the fashion side of things as i dont know what makes a good fashion shot or a bad one.

Thanks a lot :)

Really like 1 and 3, 1 could be improved slightly if you added a highlight to the eyes to make them standout a bit more, but i think 3 is great :)

I'll give it a go, thanks!

Also, is it me, but is there a horizontal line over the girls arms in number 2? it seems to go through the image

You were indeed right, but I've fixed it. Not sure where it came from, but it wasn't in the original, so I obviously somehow accidentally created it during processing!

Nice shots, I like 3 & 5 personally, I think 5 being the strongest shot. Processing is good although you don't have a consistent theme, whether that's a problem I don't know.

Criticism, I would say no 2 is the weakest, mainly due to having the brick wall and drainpipe in the background, as well as the girl having a cigarette in her hand. Personally I would say her legs probably look a bit 'chunky' when on the wall like that, it's probably not a flattering pose for her, maybe it would be better having her feet on the wall. This one would have probably come out better if you'd used f/1.4 to lose the background.

Otherwise very nice, the above is just my opinion, and as I don't shoot portraits I can't add much more :)

Technically

1 - Good, but perhaps up the exposure compensation.

2 - Nice exposure

3 - Okay, perhaps a +1/3 or 2/3 stops would've worked a little better to lighten up face and make it a little more airy.. Shutter speed is a little slow too. Perhaps ISO640, to give you a little more headroom.

4 - Well exposed perhaps a bit more light to lighten the shadows might've made it a more creative exposure, but it's fine as is.

5 - Soft. Ruins the photo for me. Should've hit 1250, if not 1600 to keep it all nice'n'crisp.

Thanks all :)

If these are fashion shots, the cigarette in 2 and the ladder in 5 really do stand out as big no nos.

Not all of the photos posted were to be used in their project, just photos I like. The cigarette was being used for a couple of photos for a specific reason, and the ladder I was just too lazy to Photoshop out yet :p

I don't mean to sound a little off, but if these shots are for fashion the focus should be on the clothes. The model is there to highlight the clothing or extra (bag, watch etc).

I like the pictures, good work. But from a marketing / fashion point of view I don't see you showing off what the shoot was intended for.

Just my 2p.

I know exactly what you mean :) The photos I posted were just various ones throughout the day; some were for her work, and some were portrait shots, simply for myself to practise the skill whilst being with a good looking model :)

Hey Adam just went on your photoblog.
1stly very nice and some quality images on there.

Can I ask if that is something you made yourself or was it a template from the intrenets??
Something like that would be perfect for one of my side projects?

Hey, apologies for the slow reply, missed this post! It was actually a pre-made theme on Tumblr, but they've since removed it so it can't be installed anymore! If you have a look on there though, there are 1000's of themes to choose from, all of which you can customise :)

Few more photos from the shoot too with more emphasis on the fashion side of things! :)

Not sure i'm fan of #5 too much going on in a small space behind the background i think.

I would have been tempted to maybe crop it differently and only had one of the walls in shot and angle the shot to get more sky and a less busy background.
