Fatties

If Scotland are going to be good at something, it might as well be poor health. To top it off it makes England look bad too. Double win! :p

Irn Bru is the biggest soft drink seller in Scotland. It was/maybe still is, the only country in the world to beat Coca Cola.

Wouldnt suprise me tbh theres loads of heffers around here, especially in the poorer areas (probably due to poor information about nutrition, crap food being cheap and requires a whole lot less effort to make).

Those are the only people it's not fair on, and who really cares about fair with BMI? it's not like there's any hard and fast rules that you won't get something if you have a BMI over a certain level.

Recently I and my co-workers (army) have started to have our BMI monitored and if your not in the correct range, action is taken against you in the form of extra physical training, if your BMI doesn't improve you can find yourself on a warning then out of work.

This BMI test ignores the fact that you may be passing all your required fitness tests and the remedial action is the same weather you're over or under BMI - yes if you're too light they make you run even more.

So the silly BMI test can mess people's lives up.

BMI is very similar to the recommended calorie intake. Works for 90% of people but not all. Amazing the number in here that are apparently obese but it's just muscle because in the real world, there are very few people like that...:p

Either way it works for most people so it's a valid way of marking.

I agree with the Hobbit lifesyle of 2nd breakfast, mmmm. :) Give me a Chicago Style Pizza with a 32 ounce soda & for dessert a large Banana split.... See I had tomatoes in the pizza sauce & a banana in my Banana split. :)

Surprised iceland has so many fatties as it only has a population of 300,000 and they don't particularly have a culture of fast food.

Wow, that country has less people than the smallest state in the US...

BMI gets a massive slating because it doesnt work for 5% of the population which then allows the other 95% to ignore it "because it doesnt work".

For most people that are not athletes it is a perfect good measure of your size. The fatties are running out of excuses and BMI is the enemy.

No idea if it works or not, but i did the tests on the machine at the gym last week. 5'9 with a 19 bmi 10% fat index, at 9 stones 2.

As with everything though, you can't rule the thumb over whats good/bad, how that applys to individuals though goes on a case by case... people that care and want to know how to keep a healthy life allways can, reguardless of size or shape.

very true, BMI is not perfect - eg waist circuference / body fat % etc are better, but even those are not perfect - eg gender differences, racial differences etc

BMI is adequate for a general feel of obesity, which is a well validated marker of long term morbidity
