I already have a Sapphire 4850 512Mb card and was looking to match up another for xfire.

I have the chance of picking up another one cheapish, Apparently it only works through HDMI, Not DVI, Surely if i use this as the 'slave' (?) card it should work no problems right ?

As long as it works, just sounds like the DVI port is a bit broken. The fact that you say it works over HDMI means it's not the card itself that's broken.

How much for? If you could get it for 50 quid or less i would take the gamble.

I was thinking under £50 too.

As long as the core runs i don't need to worry about the output as my current card will be the only output source right ?

Do P45 (P5Q Pro) boards run Xfire in X16 mode ? I was just reading that it's X8

It does not need to be a Sapphire, I can use any 512Mb HD4850 ? (This one is a Sapphire though)

No you can mix card as long as the core and mem match that will safe microstutter so i read not 100% sure on that the guys on here will confirm that. Not sure about you board mate. It should do 16x and the second card would no doubt be in 8x. Having another 4850 would give you a nice gain mate. What res are you running at?

22" Monitor @ Native 1920X1080

I noticed MW2 maxed out my single card, It never drops below 99% :D

I know that 1GB card's are better for high res gaming, If i can get a cheap 4850 in Xfire, It will save me upgrading just now, I could wait till next year for a 5xxx series card.

I thought the second PCI-E lane was also X16, I suppose i will still see a nice improvement on the more demanding games ?

yep, just clicked cesar, i'm tired m8 and I should be in my bed for work.
hail hail ma man!

Nae worries mate :D

The seller sent me this message:

HI i am sorry but i am withdrawing it from the sale due to finding out that i have a faulty monitor and not graphics card

Damn!!

Will still look out for a second card for around fifty quid, If anyone on here is selling a 4850 ;)

I'd take the plunge and snap that deal up, just make sure the card is as he suggests it is before commiting.

As for the x8 lane issue with crossfire, you'll find that it won't affect your performance much, most crossfire systems run on x8 lanes anyhow and the fps gain from having two x16 lanes is 5 fps give or take at high resolutions only [1920x1200 and above]. Regardless the gain you will get from the two cards in crossfire will be worth the £50 for sure.

I'm stuck between looking for another cheapish 4850 to Xfire or, Buy a new 4890 1GB

I might be building a system for my boy so, A new 4890 for me and giving him the 4850 might be the best way to go.

I read up on the X16 and X8 performance on PCI-e, Apparently it's only 2% difference between them, Nothing to worry about like you say.
