Ford mondeo estate 1.8 diesel 1996 alarm system faulty. hazard lights flash & alarm bleeps for no reason.

Any advice i.e can he fix it himself or does it need to go to a place to get it fixed?

I would take to a ford repair shop. I had a Mondeo same as above except it was a saloon one. I also had problems with my alarm however the best thing is to take it to the shop. It's just because of the immobiliser and mine activated a couple of times when I was trying to fix my alarm. The people at the garage would know how to deal with this. Also bring the red key that should have come with the car. The key's important as it resets the alarm and can recode it and all that lark.
On another note though my Mondeo was almost bomb proof. It never broke down. OK minor little things went like the windscreen washer, alarm, wipers etc. I loved my Mondeo. But traded it in for a new Astra :D

Bonnet open sensor is a popular one.

You can put the alarm into test mode by opening and closing the door 8 times (I think 8) in quick succession. Alternatively, press the bonnet sensor (a plunger on the drivers side of slam panel) 8 times. But if the sensor is faulty the alarm test mode wont kick in.

With the alarm in test mode the alarm should beep and/or the lights flash each time you open a door, bonnet or the boot. If it doesn't then a faulty sensor. I had to replace a couple of sensors on both of my Mondeos. The older Mondeos are a pain in the rear as the sensor is on the back of the lock inside the door! Not easy to get to!
