Favorite Ice Cream?

This seemed like the best place for a bit of an ice cream update.

Our old bucket in the freezer type ice cream maker has died *plays last post*.
But the wife has gone and bought a new Cuisinart refrigerating ice cream maker. YAY.

So this weekend I made my first ever chocolate ice cream

The recipe was something like this:

500ml full fat milk
100ml condensed milk
3 egg yolks
150g caster sugar
1/2 tsp corn flour
Make the custard
3 table spoons of cocoa powder
50g grated dark chocolate
Mix into the hot custard
Cool in Fridge
Add 300ml Double cream
Stick in magic machine to churn ice cream

Was the best chocolate ice cream I've ever had.

In the past we've made Earl Grey Tea, Christmas Pudding, Gooseberry, Lavender, Coconut, Peanut Butter, Vanilla and Plain from memory.

Also tip for "sex-ing" up any ice cream soak some raisins in some Pedro Ximenez sherry for a few hours and pour sherry and raisins over ice ream. Feel free to leave me large amounts of money in your will for that tip :D

Sargent's Dairy Ice Cream back in the day, local to me, anyone who knows Lincolnshire would know of it. Out of business now unfortunately, I think covid lockdown finished them off. It was proper thick ice cream you kind of had to chew.

A trip to Hibblestowe was always a highlight of any weekend up in Lincolnshire.

Not a fan of Ben and Jerry's. Haagan Dazs is quite good. Favourite is some good old chocolate ice cream from a proper dairy icecream parlour.

Marshfield Ice cream, I drive past it regularly, shame the shop didn't survive covid.. :(
It will be back, they were worried about safety issues with the crowds.

Big fan of Hackney Gelato, particularly the chocolate & roasted hazelnut flavour. I'd say it's miles better quality than similarly priced ice creams, or even more expensive ones in supermarkets.

They also make custom flavours for a few decent restaurants (for example, the palm sugar ice cream at the Thai restaurant Som Saa in London), so I was surprised to see how widely available and reasonably priced their mainstream flavours are. Not sure if they're available in stores nationwide, but Ocado sell several flavours, and I've seen them in Tesco and Waitrose stores in London.

Just be careful not to get the simple "Dark Chocolate" one by mistake! It's a vegan sorbet rather than a dairy-based gelato, and it's much more austere. Not unpleasant, but it's a different thing to ice cream, and I wouldn't want to eat much of it in one go.

Blackcurrant and Liquorice from here,

I often park up around there as I go climbing in the various quarries nearby but have never been in for an ice cream. I really should stop in one day!

My go to favourite is usually Cheshire Farm Ice Cream.
