Hi,
I found this trick out about 6 months back, but I wanted to make sure it worked. Basically I have quite a tough beard, consequently I found the gillette fusion blades I use were lasting maybe 2 weeks maximum. At near 2 quid each it's surprising how much cash that equates to, just to be clean shaven. (and I only shave every 2 days, find I get awful rash otherwise even with a new blade) So I came across this neat trick and decided to try it out.

I was sceptical at first, something so simple would be so effective. However I am pleased to say that now a single blade lasts 2+ months, one of my mates has used one for 4 months, I think it depends a bit on how hard your facial hair is too. Something also to point out, when u finish shaving always make sure you clear out all the hair and skin etc from the blades, then make sure they are thoroughly dry. Also, don't keep your razor blades in the bathroom, keep them away from water, keep in your bedroom etc. It's the oxidiation that causes them to go blunt, as well as the hair they are cutting. Another tip for those like me with course facial hair is shave after a shower, the hair will be loads softer. These seem like common sense, but it's amazing what a difference these tips make. This technique can be used for all kinds of safety razors, even one blade disposables.

Give it a go, the 'stropping' takes like 1 minute before you go to the bathroom, doesn't damage your jeans and could save you 50 quid a year. Doesn't seem like much, but I prefer to spend 50 quid on something better than shaving.

PS: turn the sound off for the video, not the best!

Meh, I just use the King of Shaves Azor Razer, cheaper than my old fusion, cheaper blades and a nicer shave :)

Some guy on some invention show back in the 90,s tried to get backing for his machine that did this. They said it would anger gilette etc and fobbed him off.

Ive recently seen the machine on an infomercial in the states and in the betterbuy catalogue.

He said it was a build up of calcium that caused the blades to dull. After all isnt that how the barbers of old sharpened their blades with a leather strop ?

I`ll give the jeans a go, thanks.

Wouldn't that anti-irritation agent strip thing end up all on your jeans after this?

If you really wanted an inexpensive shave you'd be better getting a DE safety razor and blades. Get a pack of 100 actually sharp blades for a tenner.

I tried one of those for a while, couldn't get on with it, seemed impossible to get the hairs close to the bottom of your nose

but the blades did last ages

Like I said, the jeans are totaly unaffected as far as I can see, also, the lubra-strip is usually rubbish after a few shaves, in fact gillette have gone so far as to helpfully tell us that when it turns white we need a new blade on a recent tv ad. I personally find this works a treat, I do however strop the blades 30 times each way before, and after I shave. Works for me! I also use a decent shaving gel, which is loads more use than the lubrastrip. As to electrics, I've tried 3 types all expensive, give a passible shave say to go to work, but find irritates the hell out of my neck skin, and if you use one with a nivea gel, kinda defeats the point of using an electric in my book!.

actually I have found that too, I either resort to my old gilette for this bit, or tear them out with my tweezers

I've given up shaving with a manual shaver. The blades are just so damn expensive.

I went to Sainsburys and got a electric shaver for £50 odd and it's perfect, much better shave then my old Fusion.
