So I seem to have picked up a bout of Manflu, which is my cue to whip up a batch of my personal lurgee remedy: Hot & Sour soup

Ingredients:
1 piece of ginger, about the size of a stock cube - chopped
1 clove of garlic
1-2 tablespoons of chilli oil
500ml chicken (or veg) stock
1 chilli chopped (use as much as you want)
2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1-2 chopped spring onions
1 egg beaten, with a drop of sesame oil
1 teaspoon cornflour mixed with water

Recipe:
Heat oil in a wok, quickly fry the ginger and garlic. Add the chilli oil and then fry for a minute.
Add the chopped chilli and the stock and simmer for a few minutes before adding the vinegar, soy and cornflour mix. Simmer for another couple of minutes until the soup has thickened a little. Then finally add the chopped spring onions and stir in the beaten egg.

What are your secret recipes for when you're feeling rough?

Hot toddy: Cheap blended whisky (famous grouse will do - about a single to double's worth), honey (couple of teaspoons), lemon juice (ditto) and hot water in a mug.

I've quite fancied doing a laphroaig and lapsang souchong tea version but like drinking them on their own too much to waste by experimentation.

A couple of slices of Marmite on toast and a glass of cold lemonade. Or if I've got a sore throat I'll mix a small Thermos of whiskey, lemon juice, honey and hot water and take sips of it occasionally to sooth my throat... just thinking about it, I don't quite see the point of the whiskey but I'm not complaining. As long as it's not my Lagavulin that is!

I think it is the other way round. ;)

Lord Marbury: You know, there are some marvelous flu remedies known in the certain remote parts of the subcontinent. Licorice root, for instance, combined with bamboo sap and a strong shot of whiskey. Ginger root, also, mixed with, uh, citrus peel.
Bartlett: And a strong shot of whiskey?
Lord Marbury: Actually, you can leave everything out except the shot of whiskey.

I do absolutely nothing, if I get ill I try to take the who cares attitude and carry on and try to forget about it. Seems to work just as well as any concoction of medicine!

Whiskey.
If I'm feeling really bad I'll make that a hot whiskey (couple shots of whiskey + hot water + sugar)
