40/40 puts it up there with the Zelda games. And Nintendogs :/

Still, sounds very promising. Can't wait for this, I can see massive dissertation disruption coming.

Haha, 40/40 for Nintendogs looks like such a poor decision in retrospect.

I mean, I can see the fun of the game, and why it got such rave reviews when people first played it. Unique controls, clever programming, AI with actual personality, cute dogs etc, but it's by no means a perfect score game in the slightest. The gameplay is so repetitive and eventually dull, and it becomes just a chore after a while. It's not a patch on the likes of Harvest Moon for making people actually want to work through menial tasks every day to get to the real game itself, mainly because with Nintendogs there isn't a real game underneath to play.

But asides from my rant, I'm really looking forward to FFXII. I'm intrigues to see how the new battle system works and how it handles basically breaking all the typical console RPG gameplay rules they went and created with the series. :)

Have to agree with the above besides although i loved zelda for my 64 it was not perfect

1 example very perdictiable story line and for an RPG very basic

It seems they did a good thing with the combat system after all. I imported FFX which was hardly amazing.. guess I'll do the same for this ;)

Maybe it's because Famitsu is a magazine based in Japan, and hence differences in cultural tastes might come into it?

Although I respect Famitsu highly, as with many reviewers I would take their scores with a pinch of salt.

It might yet fully convince me to buy a PS2 again, FF10 is pretty much the only reason why I want one at the moment anyway.

I picked up FFVII the other day, any tips to offer ?
Yeah I have a tip. Don't spend too much time training your character up in the first half or so of the game. You'll find out why when you get about half way through.

heh spoiler alert, I used to hate the bit in HL1 when you lost all your weapons half way thorugh and you had saved the good ones for hard bits.

Maybe, but I honestly don't see how Nintendogs could deserve a perfect score in any country. We're not talking cultural "they like complex RPGs, we like action games" here, Nintendogs just plain isn't a perfect score game, and doesn't deserve to be up there with likes of Zelda or Final Fantasy.

As soon as you get an All materia, equip it and leave it equipped. They're one of the quickest to master, and they net you 1.4 mil when you sell em. Sorted. :)

Don't try to rush through FFVII. Take your time, take it all in, at your own pace. It's arguably the finest masterpiece in the history of computer games, and you'd be a fool to try and side-track any of it.

this just for the ps2 i presume?

Sony bought out square from what I remember, so its probably only going to come out for the ps2 and none of the other proper final fantasies since 6 have been on anything other than playstation.

Sony don't own Square-enix exactly but they do have a significant enough share to have a big influence. For one thing if they completely owned them then I doubt sony would have let them publish anything for rival consoles.

Square fell out with nitendo way back in the day but now things are getting back to how they were. There is a re make of 3 (I think) coming out on ds with updated gfx.

I'm glad 3 will be seeing the light of day outside of japan (well presumably it will). It's the only one in the series not to be officially released in English. Although I am concerned that the 3D graphics will make it too different to the original but then again in games like this the graphics shouldn't have much bearing on actual gameplay.
