Hi, my girlfriend is trying to sell her 55 plate Fiat Panda 1.1.

It's got 18,000 miles, no tax and MOT, and hasn't been serviced since 7000 miles when she bought it two years ago.

She's expecting at least £2500 for it so is thinking about listing it for £2800 but I think this is a bit high to expect.

How much do you think it'll be worth/sell for? I'm unsure but trying to help her out with it.

Thanks

Be worth more with fresh mot and new tax, wouldn't cost much to service either, so I'd be inclined to get all that done first - be much more appealing to see it had all that done to it detailed in an advert than to see it for sale as is.

You've got a small, cheap and economical car which are in high demand at the moment by the general public so it should sell well. As said above, the target audience for the car will be put off by the lack of MOT and tax and assume it's a bag of spanners, you will struggle to sell. A Fiat Panda is not exactly a rare car so most people will simply move onto the next advert. In this case you've got to spend money (MOT, Tax) to make money :).

def MOT it. If I were looking for one and saw one with no MOT, I'd pause for a second, wonder what was wrong with it and then move on.

Yeah I know, she had someone who runs a garage in Northampton who would sell it for her so it's been sitting in her driveway since late Nov and now she's back at uni here in Sheffield, the MOT eventually ran out in December. I think the tyres are good, and the brake pads etc so don't see why it shouldn't pass as it seemed completely fine. Been speaking again to the garage in Northampton (family friend) and he said he'd try to sell it and MOT it for around £2000, but I've told her to push for £2300 with a new MOT, fair price?

Just look what similar ones go for on Autotrader etc?

Get it MOTed, Taxed and Serviced though - it's worth nothing without an MOT and the Tax/Service will help it sell a lot easier!

unless the car is an utter dog, i cant see why an 05 car would struggle with an MOT. just put "12 months mot" on the advert and then get the mot carried out when someone is about to buy it etc

Why so low?

Provided its in good condition its worth more tha this. It's a current shape, small, economical citycar with low mileage. £2k is trade price!

Tidy it up, MOT it, put 12 months tax on it for £35, and sell it all day long for about £2.7k.

When I see an advert with no tax or MOT and lack of service, I think cheapskate and think what else have they neglected. Then I move to the next advert. People who will be interested are traders looking to profit from it. Get it all done. Spend about £100-£200 and it should easily sell for £2,700. No brainer.

Ok thanks for the advice. I'll get her to get it sorted when she goes home for easter and put it on the market then, as she's fairly limited to do anything whilst at uni.
