Fiat seicento sporting

great little shopping trolly first cars, my mate had one as his and it was lots of fun without having to break too many limits

Some of the best fun you can have in a relatively modern car whilst sticking to the speed limit. Get a cinquecento for that extra raw edge . You gotta believe in Karma when you drive one though and just accept that if you get hit, then it was your day to die. However, before then it does give the best smiles per mile per pound :D.

I had one as a first car, as mentioned above they are not top of the table when it comes to safety but they are good little cars, had no trouble with mine in the 18 months i owned it despite fiat's bad reputation! they are by no means quick but they are pretty well priced and have a relatively modern feel compared to other cars in their price range.

As the previous poster has criticised the lack of "non-owner" posts i would like to hear some opinions from people who have never owned or driven one of these cars.. they probably know a lot more about them....

Good luck mate hope you find a decent example and enjoy.

I had a Cinquecento SX (899cc engine. A massive 39bhp. Yeah, you'd better be scared) and it was fine as a first car. Got me wherever I wanted to go (half way up the country along the motorway once or twice) and never let me down. I would have thought the Sei would be fine as a first car :)

It'd be fine for the first few months, but it'd do your nut in sooner rather than later tbh (would me anyway)... better not risk overtaking that tractor, as i can't see 8 miles ahead etc

I has a Cinquecento too, also the 899cc and it was a great first car. you could overtake cars, its called, a run at them and using the gears, and a big gap! :p

It never failed me in the two years i had it.

Well yes it'd do my nut in now too as I'm used to something with 4 times as much power, but it's fine for a learner/new driver. It'll teach you some respect for driving and skill too :D

cam cover.. little bit of sillicone sealant where the cover lifts up over the cam bearings cures it nicely :)

The missus has one: 1.1 seicento sporting.
It's a chirpy little thing (the car not her) when all is said and done. Though I have to say the power steering on a car that small deffo points to its being a girly car hehe.

A new tyre for it (sporting model) costs the same as a new tyre for my discovery  ~£90
It's cheap to run and cheap to service for the most part and in the two years she's had it it hasn't broken down yet. Minor adjustment for things like the clutch is a simple tweak a couple of nuts on the cable, though space in the engine bay is quite limited if you've got fat fingers. Or even if you haven't :D

Were it not for her accident history, it would cost next to nothing to insure.
It's quite poky about town if you give it some stick but as others have hinted, I wouldn't like to hit anything in it. Overall it's a way better vehicle than my first car (998cc metro city).

Dangerous, wouldnt let anyone i cared about go near one. I spend my life on motorways and the number of little tin cans like this that you see completely mullered beyond all recognition in accidents is beyond a joke.

Its slow, noisy, unrefined, you'll die if you crash it, and you'll struggle to fit in it comfortably unless you're a dwarf....

But somehow its good fun :)

The one I drive (2000 Seicento sporting in black) is getting traded in next week for a 2007 Panda 1.2 though...will be sad to see it go. I xpect the Panda to be a similarly fun car for its performance/size/price bracket judging by reviews which all praise it from a drivers point of view when compared to similar vehicles, but it just looks bloody awful :(

Hmm, conflicting opinions here. It's not going to be used for more than around the town stuff. The Seicento just seemed quite well spec'd and looks decent enough for little money. Don't really like the idea of her dying in a crash either :o

Any other suggestions of similar priced + spec'd cars? Looking to spend ~£1000 preferably less! Much less...

Cheers

Hold on, lets look at the 2 alternatives there.

The ford Ka: Who buys a car that will rust today? Plus the Seicento has an overhead cam (the 1108 at least).

The Seat Arosa: If anyone is glueing cars together with spit right now it's seat.
