fiesta 1.25. interference engine?

I'd love to buy a second hand car from you, the man with no conscience. I don't know about anyone else but I'd feel pretty bad selling a car with a known fault to someone unsuspecting. Driving 20 miles, with a broken tensioner and the car sounding like a bag of spanners, on an interference engine. How broken does it have to be before I can tell over the internet?

It would have been fine, as evident by Matt's results. Its not like you'd be selling a car that was completely ****ed anyway.

OP said it sounded 'rough'?

I would expect it to sound rough with the timing out.

Any way, way to fail ;)

Neither of us knew the true condition of the engine, it could have been shagged or it might have been fine. Of course now that it's transpired that all is fine, you can go and stroke your ego now when in fact you have just correctly guessed the outcome.

cam pulleys can unbolt, theyre on a taper and move independantly of the cams so you can get the tension perfect if you try.. so i did

You move the pulleys to set the timing accurately (with appropriate cam locks installed), you certainly don't move them to set the belt tension.

no. you adjust the timings with the cam pulleys, the tensioner adjusts tension... Surely that makes sense from the name of the thing? ;)
