Fifth Gear On Tonight

What? in a wheelchair with no legs?

I choose my words very carefully in all posts.

But nonetheless, I will repeat myself and this time I'll try and make it a bit easier to understand:

A new Modus is what? Ten grand?

Spend ten grand on a second hand Volvo and see how it stacks up against a new Modus.

Surprised the ovlov didn't do better, was a good test though.

That was also the best episode of Fifth Gear I've ever seen. The only dull bit was Paddy and that was mercifully short.

i think you're missing the point lol

Penski makes a good point, why so much missunderstanding

An equally aged Ovlov vs the Modus... I'd bet good money on the Ovlov then. How old was the estate they used vs the Modus? what did you expect!

It wasnt about a £10k car vs another £10k car.

More the fact that people always assume those big Volvo estates are indestructable and small french cars fall apart

The point they were trying to make was, don't skimp on spending money on a family car, thinking you can just get a big family machine for cheap that will be reliable etc. Spend the money and protect your family.

I have to admit i though the volvo was going to destroy that little car. I truly am shocked at how well it came off.

Just watched it, and I must admit I was gobsmacked by the result of the crash test. The front drivers side of the Volvo just completely desitegrated, and I dread to think what kind of state the drivers legs would be in.

Not the result I was expecting atall, was expecting the tank-like Volvo to destroy the Renault.

Definately an eye opener.

Been in a similar Volvo in a similar accident however we were stationary and a drunk in a Transit took the front end off from the side at about 70mph which then shoved us into the path of another car going much slower thankfully.

I was young and a passenger at the time and it made a real mess of the car, but not as strong as you expect!

An interesting point raised elsewhere; the Volvo was designed pre-offset crash testing.

Were they to use a similarly-priced 850, what would the result have been?

I sat and watched this with my dad. I had said the Modus would be way better before they crashed it - he went with the Volvo (shoulda had a cheeky tenner bet with him). Mainly as the Volvo was very old irrespective of weight/size and that I had also remember seeing another program about the big bloaty 4x4's (yank ones) and how bad they are in crashes. They just can't disapate the energy as efficiently thats what all these new cars are about.

I guess the section was to prove how far safety has come on especially in small cars rather than old volvos = widowmakers.

SLR section - turn the review guy mic off and just stick the engine noise on. Job done for me!! Big V8 Check Supercharger Check - WIN!!

This series is waaaay better than the previous ones I've watched. Enjoying the features a lot, even more so than the last series of top gear... most of it's a waste of time nowadays.

well all the slagging off this show got from the Top Gear fanboys put me off it, but i tuned in and really enjoyed it :) At least they talk about cars and not try to be some standup routine. And the porshe will be mine ;)
