Used to love the old Jackson/Livingstone books when I was a kid. Spent many an hour cooped up playing those. Even had teachers photocopy the game sheets for me in primary school for weekends and holidays.
Fighting Fantasy books were brilliant fun Used to love the Lone Wolf series too. Sold all my Lone Wolf books a while back though as they were fetching good prices on ebay at the time
