hi all

I got lost on my way home in March and at the time I didn't know but I ended up in the congestion charge zone.
I am unsure how much of the zone I was in but the cameras caught me.

That day I took one wrong turn and ended up more worse off than I could every imagine.

So to my surprise I got a letter with a £60 fine. It came through on Monday.
the time was 1740 (cameras got a pic of my reg plate) just TWENTY minutes before the zone closes.

I'm thinking of sending representation and fight the charge
anyone got any ideas how I can get out of this one?

It'll probably cost you just as much, if not more than the fine itself trying to get it turned over.

Not sure how/why you're going to fight it? You drove into the congestion zone during the hours of operation. As above, you don't have a leg to stand on. "I got lost" is unlikely to get them to drop the charge.

I'd say that you don't have a chance. Even if it was only twenty minutes, it doesn't make a difference. It could have been one minute and you'd still have to pay.

damn and you know what makes it worse not only 20 minutes but it looks like I only went into one of the roads

damn congestion charge sucks
£60 worse off

Fighting it creates dishonour, just send back the notice, with your own notice, saying you noticed it. Unless they can produce a bill then you owe them nothing.

If thats worse than you can ever imagine then you have lead a very lucky life.

How does it work ? I need to drive into London on Monday and do I just drive in and wait for them to send me a letter asking me to pay, or do I have to get a ticket or something first?

So what they do is send a PCN -so it's not really a 'fine', more a 'fee/toll'?

Th way the OP went on above it seems he is paying 60£ fine? But actually that's the cost? 60 to get into london? I thought it was a fiver ?

edit... um so looks a bit complicated to pay tbh. I'll just leave it and let them send a PCN.

It's a fine for not paying in time. The CC is £8.
