What is the best way to for 2 offices on a VPN to share and access the same files and folders? i.e. Office 1 has a folder that office 2 would like to access.

Cheers

Share the folder in the normal way. The VPN means they're effectively on the same LAN so it'd be the same as normal.

set the share up and users on the remote network should be able to browse to it and map drives to it.

I tried that but doesn't seem to work that well. I shared a folder in office 1 and at office 2 mapped a drive to "ip address\shared folder name". Seems to work ok to begin with but after a while it seems to take ages if you try and go back into the mapped drive.

Any other ideas?

It will take ages - VPN links over ADSL would only be 256k max, for example. You'd get a bit more with BT's ADSL MAX.

One way of doing it is having a server at either end with copies on each, using DFS file replication to keep them syncronised. That way it's nice and quick at both locations. Overkill and pretty expensive though.

256k max

bulldog is 512kup mate,
bulldog dsl 2 is around 1mb
and BE is 1.5 mb i think

think u **** get correct facts before posting

256K max is generally what most people have. Until ADSL MAX is installed.
Bulldog and Be are hardly renound as good business isps anyway are they?!

on topic: Have a look at something like This never used it myself and not sure its what you want, but it is an option. I understand there are other companies out there that provide similar solutions.

I did say 'for example'. Geez. It was merely to point out that it was not expected to be the same response you'd get from a 100Mbps network.

I think you will find they're all ADSL2 upload streams, maybe YOU should get your facts right before posting.

On topic, VPN is limited to upload speed as mentioned, if your business is seriously dependant on it then perhaps you should invest in SDSL rather than ADSL - the pricing on upload bandwidth is, in general, rather expensive though within the UK.
