Films that you are scared of..?

The Truman Show

I was looking behind mirrors for months

Horror movies, not so much although my 'tough as it gets' Manchester born housemate won't go swimming because of Jaws.

This guys a pussy. Apparently he's been stabbed several times and lives in the roughest part of Manchester but all he ever does is moan about everything. His health, my health, spiders around the house, moving of couch, speed of internet, speed of computer, broken raidiator, empty beer cans, washing up.... I could go on.

Shame he never does anything about it, I have to after the 60th session of moaning in a week

I can't say that there any films out there that genuinely scare me, a little jump here and there but that's all (I do recommend The Eye is it made me twitch twice). It's the reason I've been buying Hong Kong, South Korean and Chinese horror movies like a crazy man, I'm pretty desperate to see something that IS scary but so far, nowt. I'll check out some of the suggestions that have already been made as I still live in hope of finding something that'll scare me half to death.

Blair Witch Project? I'd have no qualms about showing that crap to my nine month old son. It's no more scary than Bear In The Big Blue House. ;)

The Legend Of Boggy Creek , I watched it when I was around eleven and it scared the hell out of me at night literally for a couple of years solid.

It's a documentary-film that's supposedly real about a Yeti -style beastie terrorising a small town in Arkansas, the bit that REALLY got to me was when it got in to a mobile home when there were a couple of girls in it already.. it proper gave me nightmares :(

I might have to try to get a copy of it again and confront my childhood fears..

I love that film!

I'm about the same age as you, and we must have both seen the one and only showing of it on British TV. I remember it was part of a series called the "Creature Feature" on BBC2.

I have it on DVD now. I had to order it from the US.

When I was a kid, horror movies never bothered me, other than all the blood and violence - I'd watched all the Nightmare on Elmstreet movies and Childsplay by the time I was about 10.
I seem to have developed a fear for them as I've grown older, so I generally avoid anything scary now. The ones I remember really freaking me out are The Blair Witch Project (saw it at the cinema then had to get a 30min train home alone:(), Event Horizon, and Identity (which isn't even supposed to be scary!).

I dunno what it was, but when I was younger Terminator(s) frightened me a little bit and so did Halloween. It was the expressionless face and the fact he never dies.

The original Evil Dead scared the crap out of me when I was 9 or 10. I had nightmares for literally weeks after seeing it. Of course, watching it now makes me laugh! I just couldn't see how cheesy it was when I was little.

Since then? Erm, I'm found Event Horizon pretty scary when I first watch it a good few years ago. The bit in the tunnel :D

I saw Gothica in the cinema and found that "jumpy". I have to admit to finding Sixth Sense and *ahem* The Others quite creepy.

Oh yeah, What Lies Beneath was actually pretty scary I thought. First time I put it on, my ex made me turn it off half-way through because she couldn't hack it :D

Something that really messed me up for a few days was Ghost Watch on the BBC with Sarah Green. My brother and I came in and missed the start of it where they said it wasn't actually real as they went on to present it as though it was being filmed live. When you saw "Pipes" the ghost that lived in the house as the camera panned across a room I nearly crapped myself:(

Anybody remember Ghost Watch?

You're probably right, that series does ring a bell.. I have looked into ordering it but was worried it wouldn't be as good as I remember it, does it look a bit cheesy this many years down the line?

For me its the ring.

Not because of the actual film but just the point where the girl climbs out of the tv. (and the noise etc).

This was heightened a few months ago when I walked into the lounge and my mum has thoughtfully turned the lights out but left the tv on with the volume virtually maxxed (no idea why). Around this time was an advert for a shampoo whereby it starts with an outline of a girl. Lol I walked in heard the 'noise' sound from the tv saw the girl and ran.

Afterwards I realised what had actually happened lol. God I felt stupid.

The Grudge freaked me out a lot

But the most memorable one was as the OP said, IT.

I remember when I used to stay at my nans house when I was little, she'd leave the TV on for me while I went to sleep, I woke up once and IT was on. And I woke upto the scene when shes in the old ladys house, and she drops the cup of blood and the old lady bends down to pick it up. Next thing I know she looks up and her face it scared the crap out of me, then chasing her through the house, kept me up for ages

Man! I totally forgot about that. That probably affected me more than any film. Totally scared the crap out of me. And yes, that part where "Pipes" was shown as a bulge behind the curtain sent a shiver down my spine. 'Course - if you watch it now you realise how fake it all seems! If I recall correctly, I don't think they actually said it was fake at the beginning. Numerous people were psychologically affected by that program - I remember hearing about that on the news a couple of days later.
