Final Fantasy III

There isn't online play as such but there is a wifi messaging system that allows you to unlock side quests. Not sure how that works exactly.

Just had a check of the guide briefly (trying to work :P) and it has a mail system a la Animal crossing. You can also mail NPc's, so i guess it can be to receive rare items and such

Well, the wife is a FF fangirl of the highest order and she absolutely loves it - and her expectations were through the roof beforehand.....so that must be a good sign :) Also, on Gamespot.com it's got 451 player reviews so far and is averaging a 9.4

So I'd say you probably won't be disappointed!

How high is the highest order? My collection is getting *very* near to completion (just need to pick up Final Fantasy IV SFC and the couple of recent releases ;-))

/edit - Just picked up the rarest of the lot :D Final Fantasy IV Easytype for SuperFamicom :D:D

I thought I was a huge a fanboy just having one version of each game in the main series. Apart from III I have all the rest on playstation.

I had a quick count earlier and made it 20 games with another two awaiting delivery and XII, XIII and Crystal Chronicles for the Wii on preorder :p

I can't afford the consoles to play XIII or CC yet, but I'm damned if I'm having Platinum re-releases :p

So what games are they? Are you including different versions of the same game? There must be a lot of games with Final Fantasy in the name, especially if you include the games that were re-badged as Final Fantasy for release in the west (FF Adventure and Legends).

Ok, all are boxed with instructions...

Famicom : FFI, II & III
Super Famicom : V, VI
PS1 : I, II, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX
PS2 : X, X-2
Wonderswan Color: I, II
Gameboy : Legends II
GBA : Tactics
Gamecube : Crystal Chronicles

En route : Dirge Of Cerberus & FFIV Easytype for SFC

Yeah I assumed you were counting different versions. I counted 22 unique final fantasy games (ie. with FF in the title) that are out at least in the US. The 12 main series games, legends I-III, Adventure, CC, Tactics, Tactics Advance, X-2, DoC and Mystic Quest.

You've forgotten the mobile phone game FFVII - Before Crisis. There were also a couple of Chocobo games - Chocobo Racing and Mysterious Dungeon. Spinoffs I know, but includable I would say ;-)

Loose spinoffs also include Ehrgeiz and Kingdom Hearts I & II.

Easy Type arrived :D, still waiting for Dirge Of Cerberus though :(

What can I say... this game is great. :)

I've only played FFVII on the PS before now, and I find this has better gameplay.

I've already finished it once, and now I'm trying it finish it with one character. It's surprising how quickly you level up. :)

I managed to finish an entire dungeon with only my main character (who is a knight with one sword that heals him when striking) MUCh easier than with the rest of my party, who kept dying over and over again :)

How are you doing the whole thing with just one? Keeping your party dead the whole time?

Didn't include BC as it's not out in English yet and didn't include the Chocobo games since they don't have FF in the title I don't think (plus most aren't out in English either).

I think there are a couple of new CC games on the horizon (one on the DS, one on the Wii), there's an FFXII prequel I think coming out on the DS plus there's at least two spin-offs of FFXIII planned already. They certainly do like to milk the FF name :p

All it really means is that I'm going to need a bigger shelf for my FF games :p

Might take a picture of the collection at some point, so I can show off my FF bragging prowess ;)

Yep. It's actually easier in come places believe it or not. Or character gets 4 times the EXP for each battle, as it's normally shared between you characters.

The only thing is, if your character gets petrified, game over. Quite frustrating when you are quite far into a dungeon. Still, I'm about to do the temple of water and I'm already over level 30 so I should be able to do it. :) I recommend completing it with 4 characters first tho.

some of you are saying you have already done it...how long has it took you in hours??

i know FF7 took me weeks to do first time round

It's not as long as the later FF games it seems. I'm nearing the end with 17 hours on the clock. Although it's taken significantly longer than that since it's quite hard in some places and there's a few dungeons I've had to repeat a few times.

just out of curiosity might have been mentioned but whens ffiii come out in the uk for ds
As far as I know an EU release hasn't been announced yet. I'm certain it will come out but it could be a few months.

If you want it there's no downside to importing that I can see. No region encoding on the DS so it'll play fine and it can be found cheaper (including delivery) than it'll RRP for here. Mine cost £21 altogether. Plus the US version has the minimalist style box-art that we normally get over here (the US versions usually have something more colourful).
