What a let down, i've been waiting to see this movie for ages...now I feel like a kid who didn't get the christmas present he'd waited all year for.

Put it on, saw Red X at the beginning, got that little tingle of nostalgia down my spine which reminded me of the countless hours of playing FFVII and how rewarding the game was...but this movie, just felt lazy in terms of storytelling and a decent plot.

It felt more like an exercise in animation style than an effort to tell a good story and also reward the legions of faithful FFVII fans that had been waiting for a decent movie after the let down of The Spirits Within...which I have to say, had a far better storyline.

Also the fighting style, just felt like a speeded up Matrix at times, there was nothing unique in it...I was waiting for the fighting to be over and the story to begin...trouble is, this movie is 90% fight scenes.

However...good points I must mention...the inclusion of all the major game characters, excellent use of the game music, stunning CGI and of course, Clouds massive swords :D

I've seen loads of people praising this movie on the forums...anyone actually feel the same as me...or is everyone just so eager to get a FFVII movie that they'd happily accept this mediocre effort?

I loved it, but that's because I'd love anything to do with FFVII.

I felt the film was far too short - they had a fairly solid plot going on (woe betide anyone who knows nothing about FFVII watching it!) and then the fight I thought would lead up to bigger things and an eventual fight with the "real" Sephiroth. Gutted when instead he helped the kid and the credits came up!

See I felt the plot was pretty flimsy...it was good for anyone who had played the games as it built on the existing story...but looking at it for anyone who was a FFVII virgin shall we say, it would have been as confusing as hell.

The problem is, I wanted to love this movie, I wanted to adore and worship this movie...but the plot feels so lazy...and even though i'll argue the merits of FFVII -the game til i'm blue in the face, I can't defend the storyline of this film :(

Q IV T

This is not a great anime but then neither are the FF:U anime series, Square just doesn't seem to be able to pull off non interactive work, the games are some of my favorites of all time but the film is a major let down.

I never ever played the Final Fantasy games, and when I watched Advent Children I loved the voices and animatin but I was completely    as to what was actually happening :)

Well yes, I am, any particular reason why I should know this?

Its quoted for truth, or more importantly the first letters which became popular as an abrieviation of the term.
But these are cut out by the "FAG" filter on the forum, a piece of software that is instucted to block terms such as Q.F.T as "fags" complain about its usage.
Hence in a rather inspired piece of improvisation Mat has combined the popular internet term with a plot device from the simpsons hence:

Q- Quoted IV-4 (roman numerals "Rocky I Rocky II Rocky III Rocky IV! that must be door 4") T- Truth.

Well i've learnt something new today...why is Q.F.T. such a cause of complaint?

Also...i've been using the net pretty actively on a daily basis since about '97...this includes a lot of different forum usage, but to my knowledge, i've never really come across this little saying before. As you say it's quite a popular term, i'm very confused as to why i've never come across it before.

The Q-term was a phenomenon limited (mostly) to these here forums. There was a time when around 50% (an exaggeration, but it felt like that much) of posts were simply quoting another one that people thought were relevant, simply with the Q-term to accompany the quote and nothing else.

It annoyed plenty of people because it cluttered threads and brought nothing new to them. People started doing it just to be annoying. So it was banned and there was much rejoicing.

I felt the complete opposite. I loved it. Story was more in depth than I expected, fight scenes were excellent and the characters were all as I imagined them. I don't know how they could have made it any better. I had high expectations for it and they were exceeded.

Unfortunayely the furthest I've managed to get into the film is around 30 minutes, and I've always loved the FF franchise. I really will try to get all the way through - but on the first two attempts to watch it, it really does seem like style over substance.

Also, it just didn't seem to have the 'feel' of FFVII that I was hoping for.

I loved the game so naturally I loved the film too, but I have to agree there are some points that need further elaboration, plotwise.

For instance, if anyone with a better understanding can explain...

What was the relevance of the water in the film? Firstly Kadaj drinking the water at the forgotten city and all the kids going evil. And secondly, the water that miraculously heals the geostigma.

grr which is the correct colour to hide the text?

I presumed that water was the link to the life of the planet. The water throughout the film appears to be a blessing from the Planet/from Aeris, especially in the church. Didn't it do the same when the kids drank it "chez Kadaj" - thus presenting him as a sort of saviour to them to brainwash them? Or did it make them brainwashed itself?

Will have to rewatch it tomorrow, exams finish at 3 :D
