Hello,

I've just started the game really, a couple of hours in.

After catching that girl as she jumps from the imperial guards, fight those guys ect...

Well, after i defeat the guards, whoever is leader at the time decides to indulge in a spot of self harm. They keep powering up and slashing themselfes, over and over...

Whats that all about? A bug in the game or some sort of magic thats been cast by the imperials?

I could do with not wasting my potions as i have the tough task of fighting 4 big blobby creatures in the next screen.

Any idea's??

Judging by your description, I take it you mean right after the cutscene and introduction of "Amalia" *CoughAsheCough* in the Garamsythe Waterway map?

Seeing as its been such a long time and taking from my memory, all I remember was that the Imperial Swordsmen you fight in this area, they can cast Protect on themselves which halves any physical attack you hit them with. I don't know what level your characters are, but mine were very sufficient enough in this area that I easily managed my way through.

I don't remember the Imperials hitting themselves so could you please elaborate on that part please? Do they change colour? Sounds like some sort of Berserk mode?

As for the next area with the 4 blobbly creatures i.e. Flans, they are extremely weak to Fire magic, so use Fire or Red Fang items. Use Vaan to tank them, and the other characters to heal or Fire on them. Balthier for healing and Fran for Fire since she should be stronger in the magic area.

And if you find it too hard, remember you can always back track to the save point and heal there. I can't remember if you can also fight other mobs along the way, but use those to level up your characters a bit if you can. Not to spoil it too much, but theres a great boss fight much later in the same map.

Hope this helps.

Good point, after rereading the post again and remembering this is the time when Gambits was finally in effect, perhaps maybe that is where the cause is.

Whatever the gambit set, probably has the leader targeting yourself or an ally.

Maybe the the character is 'confused'. The waterway had a lot of the nasty creatures that cast these annoying spells iirc

ha, forgot about this. Thanks for the replies.

It was infact the gambits. Kept on bettering himself untill i worked out what was going on. :)
