Final Picked up a 59 plate Civic Type R GT

Looks awesome, love their shape, but not really a type-r to be honest, just a fast Honda hatchback :p

Well having owned an Integra DC2 which was 10 years old and driven numerous EP3 CTR's none of which had rattles or bad interiors I really cant see where your coming from. Have you driven or owned any Type R's for any amount of time to form such an opinion? I've always liked the Type R interiors, can't comment on the FN2 as i've yet to be in one.

Not been in an FN2 and been in an EP3 but it just seems watered down tbh. I can only imagine the fn2 being even more sensible.

A type-r is supposed to be a lightweight beast with an aggressive VTEC change over, and part of the charm is all the creaky bits, little niggles and bits of rust. But when you get out on the road nothing else matters. Of course Honda were going to go that way to appeal to a larger market but I just love the DC2!

Don't really get many knobbers in DC2s whereas a lot of those in EP3s and FN2s don't have a clue what I DC2 is that starts flashing and waving to say hi.

no idea what your jibbering about mate, must just be you :D

but yes, many a pillock in a CTR. partly why quite a few decent insurance companies are pulling back to 30+ now :(

Its just a shame insurance companies seem to believe JDM DC2s are all driven by ***ks but UKDMs are driven by angels :D

For me UKDM DC2, EK9, DC5 and EP3 are all within around £50 of each other - JDM DC2 is nearly double sitting up there around the price of an S2000 :(

I found this recently with my Megane, quite a few specialists were refusing to quote me because I wasn't 30+!!

Got a good car there you have, really really good one!!!!!

Keith Michaels quoted me the same on each as they are 'essentially the same car.'

Some common sense from an insurer.

i was very recently going to get a DC5, but the quotes were insane compared to my DC2 and i play the insurance game very well.

it put me off in the end sadly. ridiculous. infact i can get semi-sensible quotes of all of those, bar the DC5.

Haha I do agree it is like being in a space ship - but im not getting these creaks - I really think as is widely reported these were pre-2008 problems that have been sorted

Having owned a space ship for 5 months (Type S) I have got to agree about the creaks and rattles; that I don't have any. Nice car btw

Bought my EP3 with 40k on the clock at 4 years old and in 2.5 years It went with 60k on the clock.

In those 20k I don't think I had any annoying rattles or squeaks. I stuffed 2 weeks of heavy camping gear & two full labs in it twice and regularly carried the dogs but the interior whilst not the most amazing compared to a Golf didn't make any unusual noises.

It always felt solid and reassuring and changing to a 15 year old MX5 with 70k on the clock only compounds that. Some might make the odd noise but it's not the plague many seem to make out.

I think its down to Honda to decide what gets branded a Type-R, not a couple of blokes on a forum

As for creaks and rattles, test driven an EP3 with 70k on it and it didnt have any at all

For the OP

I'd test drive a Civic and see what you think, you may not like the power delivery at all, theres no torque and you have to wring its neck to go anywhere, for me thats all the fun, others hate it

Mine has creaks and rattles, in the interior panels, going to remove all the panels and resecure them, with new bolts / push pins where they are needed

Yea, bit confused about some of the posts in this thread. The FN2 I test drove had 1000 miles on it and it plenty of rattles. Combination of bone shaking ride and cheap build I'd imagine.
