Is it true that the drive goes to whatever region the hd dvd drive is conected to?

Just look at the original XBOX... the CPU for that changed right at the 11th hour from a 600MHz AMD spitfire core CPU, to the Intel 733MHz Mobile Celeron as Intel drastically undercut AMD with another offer at the very last minute and AMD weren't willing to sell for next to no profit!

And what a mistake that was, this was a big factor in why the original XBOX was hacked :D

Not really. The AMD CPU wouldn't have made it any harder if Microsoft did stick with that instead of jumping ship to the Intel Celeron at the last moment - it was still a standard x86 CPU (The Spitfire core was the AMD Duron)

The XBOX was hacked so easily as it based on standard PC archetecture... x86 CPU, northbridge, GFX - as it's always easier to hack a near mainstream processor system with little protection in place compared to a completely custom system. There were several major bugs that could be exploited in the XBOX security both in the embedded startup code in silicon and the BIOS, and it didn't take lock for that BIOS to be hacked and the onboard chip disabled and an external flash memory to take its place (which is what every modchip did)

I noticed today that Lovefilm now have HD-DVD discs in stock for rental. I was looking for the 360 King Kong game and the HD movie came up with it!
You're in for a long wait for them if they treat their own customers like they they treat Tesco dvd rental customers (also ran by them I think) I've had about 8 HD DVD's at the top of my list now for about a month and havent had one yet!

guys just wondering how much your paying for your hd dvd movies as i have seen them for 25pound which seems abit steep on a funny note on the highstreet both hd-dvd and bluray movies are selling for the same price lol :p

well for the movies I brought which is Aeon Flux and V for vendetta they cost me £14.99 each so a lot less that the £25 price I saw in a big music retail store.

I was tempted to get a movie but refuse to pay these prices. £20 is probably tops I will pay at the moment simply because that was the price I would have paid for a dvd when they were new 7 years back.

Well just watched Kong all the way through and have just been blown away by it. Although it is a little long as I mentioned earlier the detail was just magnificent. I spotted things in the film this time round that I didn't notice when I saw it at the movies and if I had the normal dvd to compare against it, it would be great to see what the difference is.

Yes really. The Intel core contained some sort of routine/bug that allowed code at the end of an address to route back to '0' or something to that effect. The AMD processor didn't suffer from this characteristic. I'm no programming expert but it was apparently a big factor in the steps that led to the XBOX being compromised. Search for the video presented by 'MITh', it's about two hours long and explains in good detail how the XBOX was hacked.
