Finally got a new job! :D Resignation question...

Hey everyone

Just been called up by Kent Police and told that my security checks have all cleared and that I can hand in my notice to my current employer. Who happens to be an electrical retailer i've been stuck with for six years and that I hate with a passion! I'm elated

but alas, i digress.

I just called up HR and they said I only have to give one weeks notice to leave. Now the problem is, I'm on holiday from work this week (at home though) and I'm due to go back monday.

If I run a letter of resignation in today with a weeks notice today, can it be from today or would I have to work that week from monday?

I'm going to be a researcher for the Police btw, basically gathering public opinion and making sure crime victims have been dealt with properly. Sounds good to me

you should be able to take it from the date you hand in your letter - but it will depend on your employer. I can't see that being a problem for you tbh - most places with just 1 week notice will expect it to happen.

you period of notice will be from the date of the letter, congratulations btw.

my period of notice is 8 weeks. bloomen long time really.

3 months notice for me

.. but it really is at the discretion of the employer as already said.

First of all congrats

Secondly, just hand in your notice and see what they say, you only have to give one week, if htey insist that you do that week after your holiday I can't see it being a big problem re the new job. You've got the job, I wouldn't have thought the pigs would mind waiting another week for you

Yeah I know, I just want as little work at my current place as possible. Will have some fun with my last customers though

I'm going to do a week from tomorrow and finish next thursday, should be ok.

Hehe I know what you mean, I'm in my last week as a supervisor at coop and it can't go fast enough.
