I'm off to Manchester tomorrow & we are staying at the Marriott Victoria And Albert Hotel.

I've been to Manchester a few times before & places that I know are:-

Piccadilly train station
Arndale Centre
Selfridges
King St
House of Frasier

Could anyone direct me from any of those places to the Marriot Hotel & Harvey Nics? Would it be easier getting the tram or walking?

Cheers

Harvey Nicks is very close to Selfridges, between there (ie The Triangle) and Zara/St Annes Sq

edit: in fact it's literally next door lol

IIRC the V&A hotel is out near the dirty side of manc, and also IIRC the manc Harvey Nics is in Exchange Sq.

Probably easiest to get a taxi TBH.

Spot on. Strange area where the V&A is as it is a very nice hotel in a pretty poor location. Development on that side of town hasn't progressed anywhere near as fast as the rest. Completely agree with the taxi too, even though it's only about a 10-15 min walk you are looking at around £4 in a taxi.

If you gonna get a taxi then probably best to at least know what street it is one, as not all of them seem to know where every building is.

Thanks for the replies, think I'll probably get a taxi then. Where is a good place for food/bars at night near to the hotel, Deansgate?

Not sure if you feel it's too far but a trip into Chinatown would be enjoyable if Chinese food is your thing. Personal favourite is The Kwok Man restaurant. Great food, great service and reasonably priced. Also just off Deansgate on Crown square is Shimla Pinks (Indian), only been there once myself and was enjoyable enough but other people i know rave about the place, it's good but bettered by every restaurant on Wilmslow Rd. Then there's Nandos and Yum Yums in The Printworks and last but not least..... just minutes from your hotel is Harry Ramsdens. How about you see if you can step up to Harrys Challenge :)

Thanks for the advice, Chinatown sounds like a good idea as my gf like chinese food a lot. Just had a look on Google Earth & it says Kwon Man is only 1.1 miles from my hotel which doesn't seem to bad.

Do you need to book for the restaurants there or can you just walk in?

Weekdays normally is pretty much just walk-in. Weekends is definitely book first. But given the time of year and being the festive season, not sure as to how busy it would be, might be best just giving them a quick call.

After the restaurant probably best to get to Deansgate or The Printworks, find Norwegian Blue in Printworks is a nice bar, nice chilled atmosphere. On Deansgate RSVP and The Living Room are not too bad, people assume they are full of pretentious tools but this isn't the case.

Oh and Harrys Challenge is finishing his Challenge meal. It's a pretty huge fish, portion of chips which is more like 3 and about half a kilo of mushy peas :D . Finish it all and get a certificate.

Definately don't go to Norwegian Blue on Friday/Saturday nights if you're looking for a chilled atmosphere, it's usually full of chavs.

Makes a change in Manchester, usually you get three types of people. Chavs, gays and pretentious people that have too high an opinion of themselves ;)
