Finished the wire...

It has to be Clay Davis. I'm sure many of our MP's can empathise with the man.

My word, Clay Davis - what a character.

To be honest, there are SO many good characters I find it extremely hard to pick one. All so well done.

However, if there has to be one, the one that stands tall above the rest for me, is Omar :D

Just thinking back to the start of S2/3 (?) where the VERY first scene is him robbing someone but faking it as an old man in a wheel chair. God damn, that was excellent !:D

boardwalk empire was also amazing!! i think im going to start on breaking bad tonight at your recommendation!

I need to get on boardwalk empire after the other 30 series I need to catch up on :)

Breaking Bad is excellent, on par with Dexter if not very close in my opinion. Very well done and a lot of the episodes make you want to keep watching more.

Omar is an amazing character, I got an Omar's comin'! T-shirt for Christmas and it's great, whenever I'm out at parties or whatever I get people coming up to me and chatting about how great The Wire is!

My word! It's my Birthday today and I think you just hooked me up a gift I can get myself :D Thanks !!

I found Deadwood to be quite similar to The Wire in that it contains a lot of characters that 'feel real' and situations that are negotiated with strategy and politics. By characters that 'feel real' I mean they are each spared the time and space to have feelings, ambitions, plotlines and don't feel like they are just tools to aid the progression of a major storyline. In fact, like real life, the series is about people and the mix of all their stories, not one main story.

Feels quite slow moving as well. Like The Wire you can watch half a dozen episodes and feel like not much has happened, yet it remains excellent.

And for sheer addictiveness I'd recommend Breaking Bad. Obviously very different to The Wire but another absolutely gripping drama with a superb performance by Brian Cranston.
