Finished watching X-Files, what next?

Whilst I'd love to see Duchovny and Anderson reprise their roles, in all honesty I don't mind it if they cast new actors. I think the X-files at it's best is good enough to carry its own weight, so long as the actors are semi-competent and have good chemistry.

Plus I hope it follows the format of the earlier seasons, with different mysteries every week.

Gillian purposefully left the show in season 7 because she felt it had run it's course, she's hardly gonna come back and do it again.

David left the show after the 7th season, not Gillian. Even then, he didn't leave it entirely, coming back for an episode here and there.

The X-Files was at one point one of the most popular TV shows on the planet in ratings terms. It dropped around season 5 / 6 where it really should have been finished off.

Money talks.

Hmm, I don't know where I got that from then. Maybe I was getting confused with another show.

I just can't see it working, I mean they've pretty much done all they can in regard to the story and characters. They got together, the syndicate and smoking man are finished, they know the "date" and are no longer FBI agents, well, working on the X-files because the aliens have pretty much gained control of everything. So what next?

They could do a movie (what I'd prefer) about the final date and set it in the final moments of 2012. You know "the truth is out there" they finally got it, but I doubt that's what they'd do. It's more likely they'll go the nonsense route of either not mentioning it at all aka. I Want to Believe or they do a silly it never happened thing and make up more contrived bull.

The X-Files was the best early on when Mulder and Scully were working together, getting to know eachother and gradually uncovering the truth, with the awesome smoking man and the syndicate at the helm manipulating everything. Without these things, it's just not very good.
