Hello

i use u torrent to download and firefox to surf the web.

They all work fine untill i leave utorrent download for say an hour and come back to use the web .

No matter what i do the web wont load up pages etc, timeout if i cancel utorrent downloading makes no differnce.

Only way is to restart the computer then its all fine.

Any ideas??

i dont have IE on my machine:)

nope nothing to do with leaving the machine idle etc

only happens when i leave utorrent d/ling for a good while and come back

omg i have the same problem as you! its weird coz everything was working fine until a month ago when things went all bad! im still trying trial and error tactics to solve what it is! im building a new pc next week so it should put things back to normal with a fresh install, i thought it was something to do with IE coz firefox performs better and loads the pages, however it still has a few problems. I really dont know ive done everything i can think of.

I had the same problem when I was with BT. If I left utorrent running all night, it wouldn't matter which computer in the house I tried, IE, FF and Opera would all just time out even though utorrent would still be downloading fine. I'd have to reset the modem to get it to work again.
Since I switched ISP's, it hasn't happened once.

I have the same problem as well, both firefox and internet explorer become unresponsive and refuse to load pages after a while, utorrent continues downloading,i have really cut down on the amount of connections associated with the torrent but it still makes no difference.Only a reboot of the modem will solve the problem. It never used to do this only recently.

I'm fairly positive your router is to blame. It sounds like it can't handle the sheer amount of connections. Try reducing the connection limit within your BitTorrent client or purchase a better router (Thompson ST585v6). :)

it does indeed sound like a router problem. My housemate used to use bitcomet which made the internet unuseable.

As others have said whats your global maximum amount of connections set to.

Doing a quick google search of your router and torrent shows others have the same problem.

A couple of fixes people have listed is

Options > Preferences > Bittorent and make this less than 200.

Although a lot say try this which I'd do first. Make sure your logging is turned off as lots of people have reported that their router runs out of memory quickly with the inbound connections logging feature turned on.
